Turbo Needed

Evening all. Further to my recent post about loss of all boost pressure in my 1988 turbo I have spent today tracking down the cause. Sadly my worst thoughts have been realised and my turbo is indeed shot!!!! If anyone has a reconditioned K26/6 they would like to part with then I would be your man. I realise that is probably a big ask so if anyone knows where I can pick up a recon then I would really appreciate it. I can't afford too much down time on the car so will need someone who will take the old turbo after I have removed it and installed the new one. Who would have believed it? The day after I install my dual port wastegate and the turbo packs up!!! When will I ever get to have some fun????

Rob,
Sorry can't help with your turbo hunt but I wondered if you felt the addition of the extras had an impact on your turbo failing or was it just a very unfortunate coincidence?
Pennies allowing might it be worth looking at a newer design of turbo - JMG does some on that annoyingly teasing modifying page.

No mate it was probably more to do with the bolt I found wdged in what was left of the compressor blades!!! Obviously came out of the aitfilter housing. Not my day today fella.

Do a web search exchange turbos, i cannot remember the name of the company but i think they were based in the North East,
They did an exchange service and were reasonaby priced.

On the face of it mate looks as though I got away quite lucky. The compressor body is still there and spins nicely but the bolt turned the best part of the blades into very fine filings - almost like dust. It actually happened yesterday the day after I had installed my TiAL wastegate. Obviously I though that was the problem and the car has been running without boost since. If there were any more damage to be done I think it would have been done by now. It's obviously a good time to give the intercooler a good flush anyway so reat assured everything will get a good going over.

Hi pal sorry to hear about you mishap ! I have found a Turbo unit on ebay listed under Vehicle Parts & Accessories > Car Tuning & Styling > Performance & Tuning Parts > Engine Tuning Parts Porsche 944 Turbo KKK 26 turbo
Item number :170375830184 3 days remaining

But why not use this as an excuse to upgrade and get some more BHP !!!

Best of luck regards J.C[:D]

LOL I haven't even had the chance to use the HP I have available now (or not as the case stands)!!!! The thought had crossed my mind but my current repair/upgrade bills are running quite high!! Another turbo would mean more chips and no doubt a whole pile of bits to make it fit so I am afraid I will just have to settle for what I have..........for now. I have just bought a new boost gauge too and might be buying a wideband AFR pretty soon so Christmas will have to wait!!

Thanks for the plug JC as that's my turbo, but as advised in the description I would put new seals and bearings in it first before installing it on another car..

Thanks anyway....[:)]
