Turbo or carrera sport wheels?

Any one got any thoughts on the above. Not to interested in looks wise as I prefer the sports was just thinking of the following.
1) Durability.
2) Ease of cleaning. (looks like the turbos would be easier).
3) Weight. (I think the sports are larger at the rears and carry slightly larger tyres).
My only concern is if the turbos need a refurb during their life it may be harder to get the oem finish, Having said that I think the sports are anodised and laquered around the edge so may be equally as hard.

My Turbo wheels are a couple of years old now and apart from a slight marking of the plastic centre cap the wheels are holding up fine.
No signs of corrosion at all, however I agree that if damaged the Turbo wheels are pretty nigh on impossible to be repaired back to new.
However I have been made aware of a company that does say it can redress the surface.. luckily I've not needed their services.
They are a pretty easy wheel to clean, but not as easy as the 996 Turbo wheels were [;)]

Just replaced my centre caps, my OPC did a deal on the replacements as Porsche UK not interested. Sold the old ones on e bay, thought someone could refurb. Of to the pub now got 90p [:D]

I have turbo alloys! They are great and look the nuts and are very easy to clean. They work very well with a Meteor Grey car as the inside face of the wheels almost match the Meteor body colour.

How about GT2/3 wheels. I like the multi-spokes and they're hollow - therefore saving on unsprung weight; also a very robust wheel. [8D]
Good luck!

I've got the Sports in black, really easy to clean. I thought they were lighter than the Turbo wheels but will stand corrected if I'm mistaken

But of course I am biased!

Cheers,
Simon

Sports for me too -classier than the turbo wheels[;)]

They are easy to clean as they are painted GT Silver......

I had sport designs on my previous car and the sports take a fraction of the time to clean!!!

I chose sports (305mm wide at the rear), not too difficult to clean but if you want the inner rims to be clean and you're too busy to take the wheels off or you don't have a willing child to call on your hands and arms may take a mild beating [;)].

I've got sports on mine easy to clean (although not quite as clean as Allans on the insides) and look fantastic against my black car. Go for it without doubt better than the turbos, I think they are about £1500

I have managed to keep my CS wheels like that over the past two years without much effort.

I got a 350mm, or so, long bottle brush. My wife cut up some old towels and sewed them into, for want of a better word, towelling condoms that fit nicely over the bottle brush.

  • Use 1 to wash off dirt during washing - the brush easily reaches through to the inside of the rear wheels and past the caliper/disc.
  • Use another to clean the residual brake dust after drying the brakes off with a run.
  • Another to apply wax and a final to polish.
  • Every now and then crawl under and clean the very inside of the rim.

I can't believe I'm owning up to this..................................

Just coming out of intensive care for rictus in face caused by permanent grin when driving my Gen 2 Cabriolet (arctic silver, met blue hood, manual - of course!). Ex DV (sorry Derek!) from my OPC and had turbo wheels. Asked for them to be changed to carrera sports but as none in stock, had to "live with" the turbos. In the end they had grown on me so much that I chose to stick with them and glad I did. I see what people mean about the carreras looking more classy, but to my eye in a rather traditionalist way. I reckon the turbos look great on this car! Will try to upload a pic but maybe see you at Blenheim?!

PS - how is the Gen 2 SOOOO much better than the Gen 1....?
