Turbo or GT3 ?

They come in handy once in a while, but I don't particularly need them. Do you think that's all it boils down to ?

I think I'd want the power of the TT but the fun, agility and precision handling of the GT3.

Buy the GT3 ! Turbo's will be everywhere, GT3's will always be special. And what about the looks ? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that but the Turbo looks fat, the GT3 looks just right to me [;)]

Do you want to use it on the road or on the track.

If mostly for the road, then get a turbo. It is what they are designed for. Mid-range grunt, comfort and enough handling to keep you happy.
If mostly for the track, or as an occaisional car, then get the GT3. Lighter, more agile, more feedback.

If you have enough of the folding stuff, ideally buy both.

Turbo is supposed to look fat. You need to develop a liking for a big rear end.

On looks alone it would have to be the GT3, although the boxteresque central tailpipe exits take a little bit of the aggression away from the rear view for me. However the front and side profiles are spot on, whereas for me the Turbo is not quite as good. It's as though they have thought "we must make this look different" but in losing the standard driving lamps setup, it moves away from the 993 look that has seemingly made the 997 popular. I'm also not keen in particular on the central splitter in the engine cooling vent or the wheels.

That said - I'd be well pleased to have either sat on my drive!!

The side profile of the white one in this months EVO really shows off the low stance of the car. If I have got the figures correct, the GT3 is 10mm lower again than the -20mm sports suspension option for the standard car, making it 20mm lower than my PASM equipped C2S and 30mm lower than the standard Carrera? I'm surprised they can turn the steering without fouling the arches! Makes my car look like an LX variant in comparison and a standard Carrera must look positively "off road" stood next to a GT3!!

I'm surprised they have fitted PASM to the GT3? I haven't driven one but I understand that the 996 version and in particular the RS derivative has an extremely bone-jarring ride on our well kept British road system? Perhaps the addition of PASM is part of the "wider audience" net they are casting along with satnav etc etc? The hardcore boys will have to wait for the RS.

Interesting to hear that the Porsche head of R&D thinks that PASM in sport mode is too harsh for the road and that the best "Ring" times are extracted in normal mode! I am scared to push on in my car in normal mode as it bounces around horribly - it is only any use for motorway and town driving IMHO.

Anyway, I'm off to check this months premium bonds, as Stuart said, if your holding enough folding, get both!

Actually, I was being flippant. Although they are being launched in tandem, they will offer very different characteristics and appeal to different buyer criteria. But, I don't think the GT3 will disappoint on power[:D].

The 997TT's qualifications are fairly predictable, but the big question that hangs over the GT3 is whether it can provide viable and enjoyable road use, as well as its inevitable track capabilities. If the new GT3 really is as good as many observers are suggesting then it should be the most desirable Porsche for very many years.

A typically spec'd 997GT3 will be c.£85k+, whilst a typically spec'd 997TT will be £100k+.

However, to put this in perspective, you could buy a superb 996 GT3 and an excellent 996TT for this sort of money.

Worth adding that the TT could probably be used as an only car, whereas the GT3 may need to be supplemented with a practical run around. Mind you, the £15k saving should see to that[;)]

But, if you want either of these cars you'll need to get your deposit down PDQ. Demand is bound to exceed supply.
