Turbo owners

Morning Scott !

Looking at the part and the number associated with it, I'm pretty certain it sits on the RHS (drivers side) of the engine block underneath the oil filter/ thermostat housing and between the exhaust manifold and the oil cooler pipes.

The title is fairly misleading as it implies it a heat shield for the oil cooler- its actually for the pipes leading to the oil cooler. The later does have some shrouding/ cowling that flows air out of the front PU and into the oil cooler but this is plastic.

Hopes this helps,

Chris

Cheers chris.

I will go outside and double check to see if I have it in a bit, I know all about the shroud for the oil cooler, mine got broken off in my accident and the garage never bothered replacing it, I have literally just fitted a new one [:)]

its for the M44.52 and the M44.50/51 engines, goes under the exhaust manifold and bolts on to the oil filter housing.

real fun part to change, hope you are double jointed and a contortionist

I don't think it's the turbo exhaust shield...I just took a look at mine, not easy to see in full, it's similar but no cigar. Mind you they may have changed the shape for later models?

I suspect from the part number that its a standard 944 part, hence it fits onto the side of the block underneath the exhaust manifold and up and around the oil filter/water/oil exchanger.

You're right it may well be an updated part - I bought a new starter motor heat shield for my turbo - very different to the original part !

This is not for the oil cooler and its not Turbo specific. I just changed it on my S2 - the exact same part number. Its the shield that fits under the exhaust manifold. You can change it from underneath but it is a painful process. Its actually 3 pieces (theres a bracket behind it in the middle) and you have to take it apart and reassemble it in situ.

On mine, it was the bracket that was broken but you have to buy it all - so I have the other "old" parts if you want them.

Oh - and its only £51 + VAT from an OPC (or it was in Feb anyway).

Correct. Mine had cracked and had a rattle so I replaced it with a new one last year.

E Bay blaggers at it again, no longer available but you can buy mine at an inflated price, I saw some over mats advertised as no longer available they went for £132.
Still availableo @ OPC at around £70

Thanks for the replies guys, it does appear to be the shield next to the exhaust manifold and thankfully I have one in place.
