Turbo Rad fan wiring sequence

Morning All !

Long story short ( better cooling, 2nd oil cooler etc) I need to figure out and understand the wiring sequence for the Radiator Fans on the Turbo. So until I get chance to plunder the Wiring diagrams from Rick Cannell site, is anyone able to answer the following questions:

1. Are the Fans wired in series or parallel ? ie if you disconnect one will the other still kick in ?

2. How does the A/C switch and system link into the rad mounted thermostat and activation ?

3. Related to 2, why are there 3 wires into the thermostat ?

Thanks in advance for anyone that can impart this knowledge !

Right then, having received no responses, I spent several hours interrogating the wiring diagram and experimenting. So this is what I've established which may be useful to others working on the fans on Turbo's or S2's: 1. 3 pin thermostat into the rad provides two-speed fan input, moderate at 92degrees, high-speed at 102degrees 2. Each fan is wired in separately ( if you un-plug one or pull the fuse ) the other will still work. 3. Activating the A/C switch inside the car kicks the fans in to provide additional cooling 4. I believe (albeit unable to test as A/C deleted) that the fans are also activated by an in-line pressure switch in the high-pressure A/C line - I assume this is to additionally cool the A/C gas if the pressure gets too high. So what does this mean, well for me and the setup I'm planning to run for the Ring trip in July: I'll drop one of the fans out to improve flow through the radiator If the oil temp starts getting high at slow speed or in traffic, switching on the A/C will pull air through the additional oil cooler mounted in front of the rad. Hope others might find this of use Chris
