I thought I would share a pic or two of the replacement to the 997 Turbo S, which was an awesome car.

The trouble is the new one is pretty awesome too.

We were in the Wilton House parade past week whcih was a great way to try it out for its inaugural week on the planet.

First impressions are very good, does lack the outright build quality of a 911 but wow the noise is infectious.

But I will always have a 911 at some stage and my 968 race car keeps me focussed on that.

David, You might be trying to embed a photo that is just too large. Try reducing the photo size or link it to a file sharing host site. Alternatively, you can email me the file at 997@porschclubgb.com and I'll post it on my own file sharing site linked back to here. I'm sure we're all keen to see your new motor. Regards, Clive.

I presume you are referring to the 458 Spyder. One of my jobs allows me to sample various exotica, and I've got 4 days with a 458 Spyder in early September. I've already driven the Coupe across northern France, and it's quite an event, but couldn't live with it everyday - whereas, whilst the 997 Turbo 'S' might lack the charisma of most Ferraris, I found it a far better day to day proposition and awesomely capable.

I have driven the 458 Italia and the 458 Spider quite a lot. I have owned two 430 Spiders and one 360 Spider as well as other exotica. Great cars! But the 458 is a Sony Playstation and both 458 & 430 exist mainly on wow factor. When that wears off (& it will) the appeal fades. Both cars are too big, too fast (if that is possible), too thirsty and too expensive to run. I traded my 430 Spider for a bog standard 981 2.7 Boxster. Yes really! And guess what. I prefer the Boxster. Am I potty? True, there is at least one Ferrari in every petrolhead. But in our stable now is the following: A GT3 Clubsport.... HARDCORE A hairdresser's Boxster A Macan prototype. A BMW 3 Series And a SA Bulldog. That keeps us very happy. :)

I've never really understood why people would buy cars like Ferraris. Yes they are beautiful and sound great, but you can't really use them for anything. If you have a fleet of cars for practical reasons and the Fezza is just a toy for weekends then I understand a little bit more. But the great thing of the Turbo is it's more practical less obvious in terms of standing out in a crowd. I drove my bosses Carrera GT in the French Riviera last year and whilst it was an amazing experience that I tell people whenever the opportunity arises, I remember thinking how I would never own that car because there is no reason for it other than itself. And when you are in it, it's like a travelling circus, that EVERYONE stares at. No point wearing a dark pair of glasses and a mack in that car! No disrespect meant here, I hope you enjoy your car.

Sorry OT but you drove a CGT? One of the best drivers cars of all time. The only reason to own a supercar is for itself, transport is left to more mundane stuff. So what was it like? Your boss must be very trusting!

ORIGINAL: isysman How can you have a Macan prototype?
Tongue in cheek! The Macan is a badged Q3/5 with the usual tweeks from Porsche, in the same way the Cayenne is from the Towrag. However, the Q3 is a brilliant SUV and I'm positive that the Macan will be even better. It is apparently based on a much revised chassis and is some 5" longer than a Q3. My current Q3 is my second. Can't wait for the real version [:D]

Good job other people have different opinions ...[&:] I could suggest that you sell your 997 Turbo and buy a Golf TDI as it has the same amount of seats and wheels as the 997, its more economical and possibly cheaper to service. Its a form of transport just like the 911- in fact just like the 458 and other super cars. We buy these things for a feeling and for visual appeal that some of us enjoy seeing, not just because they are a car... As said, the chance to drive the CGT :p, which is highly regarded as one of the best driving car- recently agreed with by EVO magazine.

That is the correct colour, sir [:D] As we live not too far from Dick Lovett's new Fezza dealership, the sight of a 458 is not infrequent - accompanied by the noise!!! Somehow that engine note is unmistakeable, and prospective owners on a road test are usually encouraged to give it the beans. Wonderful.
