Turbo SE setup.

Hi guys, I have not long had my silver rose, and the guy who had it before me has had a fiddle with the suspension and turned it into a bit of a wallowy barge! It likes to lean into corners a little too much for my liking and feels like it need adjusting. I have not had a proper look, and don't want to make it worse through fiddling anyone know the best set-up for a good occational road/track car?
 
I am surprised that the car is wallowy, as I believe that even on the softest setting, the M030 shocks are harder than the standard turbo setup. My Turbo S is the same spec as your Silver Rose and it doesnt really wallow, although the rear shocks are on my list of parts to replace (they are only about £70 each from OPC).

Cheers for that, I would not say it was wallowy exactly, just not at precise as I would expect from other porkers I have been in. Could it be bushes or something else perhaps?
 
quite possibly. My plan is to replace the rear konis, replace rear anti rollbar bushes (approx £20 each), replace droplinks for rear arb (approx £70 each). (The alternative is to fit the complete arb assembly from a 968 CS, which is adjustable, but is approx £300!)
Worth checking the bushes on the rear trailing arms, but I havent looked into costs if these need replacing.
The main thing to check at the front are the balljoints. Bad news here is that if they are worn you need to replace the complete wishbones - see here http://www.david-gilmour.com/
Then anti rollbar bushes (I presume similar costs to the rear but havent checked yet). You could also fit the castor mounts from a 968, which should tighten things up a bit. Not terribly expensive.

Another thing you could do would be a 4 wheel alignment check. This would cost approx £150. I am going to wait until I have done the above as some of the work (particularly the castor mounts) would need a subsequent realignment.

Having written all this down it looks a lot worse than it really is! Assuming your rear trailing arms and front wishbones are ok, you should be able to make quite an improvement for not much outlay (well that is what I am hoping anyway!)

What sort of mileage would you expect to need this work? I have just gone over 70600, large amount of the miles have been dry comuter type mileage from the previous owner. Aparently not giving it much grief!!!![:D]
 
I had a full alignment check and the geometry set back to factory settings last year along with a new set of conti's. It had a pretty major overhaul, nothing came up then and that was around 900 miles ago, it is going in again soon for a new aircon pump cos that seized and sent a smoke signal out for all to see![:mad:]..........which was nice.
 
mine has done 93k miles and isnt really showing its age. I just want to tighten it up a little. By the sounds of things it may well be that your shocks are just set up wrong. If the front is too hard and the back too soft, or vice versa, it would make it handle a bit strange. The fronts are easy to adjust in situ, but the rears need to come off. Other than the link above, I'm afraid I dont know anything about setting them up.

Cheers steve, the link was fantastic! well enough for me to decide to get someone who knows what they are looking at to have a look! Not quite as simple as whipping the wheels off and having a twiddle!
