Turbo silencer

Right, I've just had a look at the engine pictures in the original 911 brochure, it looks as if you'd need to make an extension pipe to fit between the existing pre-silencer and the inlet flange of the turbo back box. Also you'll need to blank the waste gate pipe I think !! (Couldn't see where this one goes to in the piccie, looks like into the exhaust near the tail pipes) The big question is why would you want to fit the Turbo back box to a 3.2, it probably won't work very well, I think that they offer little in the way of back pressure due to the forced induction of the turbo.
If you have the turbo back box, sell it in Porsche Post and put it to the money you'd have to spend on the extension pipe and buy a good stainless back box made for the 3.2 !

HTH,

Cheers seen the item on e bay and thought mmm that would look good on mine, seems like too much hassle so i wont bother thanks for the advice all.

I dont think the one on Ebay is a real turbo silencer. It looks like a standard one with the 930 twin pipes at the exit.

The inlet is in the right place to fit our cars as far as I can see

Have been looking itno replacing the rear box on my 3.2 recently, and was going to buy one with twin rear outlets (1 on each side), assumed that could use one off an SC but there is a difference,,apparantly a 3.2 box has a recess in the box to accomodate a pipe that runs around the rear of the engine bay....so a box off a SC wont fit!

Anybody that knows to the contrary, i would be interested to hear from.

This is true, however, if the one you are removing is shot, then cut the flange off it and use it as a spacer with two gaskets and it will fit. I did this when someone gave me an unwanted stainless SC rear box, which I fitted to my 3.2 Carrera.

Cheers

Alan,

Hear from time to time various stories about loss of back pressure with the twin outlet rear box which effects mid-range performance. SO, when I replaced mine recently I opted for a single 84mm outlet SS box from Essential Simon. At around £350 it is a steel (excuse pun), no loss in back pressure and wonderful sound above 4,000 rpm. NO reduction in mid-range performance whatsoever. The box is made by DANSK and is VERY well made. Apart from looking the bis' it does a great job. BUT as they say, the choice is yours.

Happy motoring

Dave
