Turbo vs GTS ? options and running issues

Morning All !

First time posting on this sub forum - been on the 944 for many years.

I currently have an X5 for towing and general lugging - looking to upgrade to a Cayenne sometime in 2024, thinking about GTS or possibly Turbo - any recommendations for or against or buying guides ?

I'm fully aware of the coolant pipe issues for all the V8's - 955 & 957 - not afraid of stripping inlet manifold off etc - did read the GTS diary entry with great enthusiasm.

Any advice or guidance gratefully received.

JayEmm on you tube has done a few cayenne videos - i think there was one comparing GTS and turbo earlier this year, and he was running a turbo himself for a while

Ooo look 944 chums at it again.

Having had the opportunity to drive both I would have to say the Turbo is probably too much. You only have so much grip and my concern was always, if you did get carried away, the speed at which it happens, and the weight of the vehicle, will mean very bad things will occur.

More power encourages that demon to unleash the beast - bad demon.

Enjoy the luxury of a big waftty truck. It isn't a sports car and silly power will just mean bad things are more likely to happen. The GTS is already too fast for a big truck, you don't need Turbo insanity as well. Just my humble opinion.

Chris,

I’ve owned a 2013 GTS for almost a year and I can’t fault it. Although 10 years old it’s a 2 owner car and had 47k miles when I bought it, and has been really well looked after. I had the gearbox and diff flushed together with some underside rustproofing and general tidying up when I first got it. The only problems I’ve had were a u/s rear wiper motor and water in the boot from the pano roof, however no damage done thankfully. I haven’t driven a Turbo however I would echo John’s comments re performance. The GTS is plenty fast enough, particularly in Sport, and the noise is fabulous. Also I’ve only ever seen 1 other GTS of similar vintage on the road, which I like. It’s comfortable and quite happy to waft along; I find that the Comfort PASM setting makes a bit of difference for motorway driving in terms of ironing out undulations. Over the 8,000 or so (mixed) miles I’ve driven it’s averaged around 24mpg and used very little oil. I use a local independent for all work, hourly rate is £70 ph which is about average I think. Originally I was going to use the GTS for towing but it’s too special, so my old Discovery 3 has been pressed into service (it was already the dog car and general workhorse). Happy to provide more information if required. Good luck!
