Turbo water pump and dump valve.

Hi

The water pump which should send water around the Turbo for 25/30 seconds when you switch off is not working. Some have suggested the switch is broken (wobbly switch!!!). I have bypassed this and can hear the relay switching and I am getting power fed to the pump, so does this sound like the pump has packed in. Has anyone else had this pump fail? If this is broken anyone any ideas of cost for replacements and how easy it is to change?

Also I can suck air from the top of my dump valve if I take the top tube off it and suck. Does this mean that needs changing aswell. I have seen other threads on here regarding this, just thought I would ask advice again.

Thanks once again

Lee

In all the different forums I've read over the years I dont think I've heard of the actual pump failing. The relay and the switch a couple of times, but you seem to have tested them okay [&:]

http://www.clarks-garage.com/ seems to suggest it will take an afternoon to replace the pump. It is mentioned in the proc for replacing the turbo itself as well as in the coolant section. It is also mentioned in the 951 FAQ section on the same website.

If you can suck air in the top of your dump valve, it has worn out [8|] The good news is that Porcshe now supply the 993 Turbo dump valve as a replacement. This has a metal valve inside instead of the original plastic. Porsche sell it for under £40 with discount but SlimboyFat discovered the Saab one is the same Bosch unit and got his for £28 IIRC. There are also aftermarket Bailey DV30 dumpvalves available in many colours for around £90

Thanks very much Paul.

Does anyone know if these Bailey dump valves are of any advantage?

Apart from being shiny which is an obvious power gain straight away [:D]

Thanks again

Andrew @ ProMax told me the DV30 would be a better base to work from if you intend to make modifications further down the line, as he has previously shown it to work well with additional upgrades.

As you are on these forums then it will only be a matter of time before all the boosty boys talk you into joining them on the darkside in their neverending quest to empty their wallets into the engine bay. (Ask me how I know [8|])

I there a wicked lot, not only my wallet but my credit card has now been eaten by my turbo...

On the up side it goes like sh*% off a shovel, and looks great. [:D]

Well it looks like it will have to be a DV30 then [:D]

Cheers Rob for confirming to me to just carry on emptying the wallet,
silly question really.

The list of wants was not supposed to happen with this car, stay standard I told
myself!!! Oh well on the slippery slope now, may aswell just enjoy the ride.[:)]

Cheers
