Turbo write off (he had it for 3 minutes)

My friend was testing a turbo b4 buying.........

Wrote if off 500 yds from the garage.........Is this a record?

He hit a slip road barrier with the front and back then parked it up the enbankment.

He bought it! (I did notice the garage had let him test it on a damp road with bald tyres)

Anyway, I have had a look and it is dead.

He is looking to get some money back so if anybody wants a good engine, very clean and running (sounds better than mine)
or very good interior (no rips or visable wear) in ivory pinstripe non-leather.

If anyone is interested email me. (no I am not on commission, just trying to help a stressed out mate.)

why did he buy it ?? The garage should have had insurance if they were taking people on test drives

This seems a bit iffy! Certainly the first time I've heard of someone buying a car they've wrecked during a test drive.

Obviously your friend should have paid more attention to checking over the condition of car, especially the tyres, before going out on his ill-fated test drive.

What sort of vendor allows a car with dodgy tyres to be used on the public highway. Ultimately your friend should have walked away and threatened to report the vendor to the rozzas.

I agree but, by the same token, it would seem that he was being a bit of a silly boy.

Yes, I have told him all of the above but too late

.....he is paying for his mistakes

Remember the first time you hit the turbo.......I know I was surprised.......but I was not going uphill in the wet on dodgy tyres!

Known this lad for 25 years, nothing iffy about him he thought the car would repair when he bought it, but it is just not worth the expence.

I dont think he was being silly, he just got caught out.

He has now gone off the idea of a turbo.

I'll have the transaxle if its a Limited Slip Diff. I'll also have the Gearlever and gaitor if its in good condition (No rips) In fact if the rear luggage blind is good I'll have that too!!!!
May even have the exhaust manifolds if he wants to do a deal for the lot.
I'll email you in case you do not see this reply.

Cheers

Tyres can still be perfectly legal but not very grippy in the wet. I took a car for a test drive before Christmas on front tyres down to near the markers. I was warned beforehand that they were low but that replacements hadn't arrived yet. I took a look and they were legal so I went out in it, the day was streaming wet and the front wheels lit up many times (and I'm talking testing the car properly so 70mph+, not hooning away from traffic lights and junctions). Basically a moderately powerful FWD hatch can't cope with legal tyres near the end of their life so what chance does a Turbo with 83 more bhp have?

It sounds like a bad set of circumstances to me; new driver to the car, not the best tyres and wet conditions is a recipe for disaster, but everyone with a Turbo has had a sideways moment or two. I still don't understand why he bought the car though and shame on the dealer for taking his money. Did he pay the pre-accident price or a salvage price thinking he could repair it?

oh dear! does it have the brembo four pot calipers etc on on it? If so what sort of cash would he be looking for the whole set up including M/C and servo? please mail richardb@cpm-uk.co.uk with a price. Thanks

Went up the same slip road today

......he did'nt stand a chance

Big incline, with slight bend and the barrier sticks out into the road on the inside of the bend with no hard shoulder.

The barrier is new due to two families recently ending up in the canal below!

Anybody want a complete turbo engine for £900 (still drives) When thats gone I will email everybody that wanted the other bits.

Wish I had a dozen LSD's for sale.

I need a brake fluid resovoir lid. and the small triangular piece in the sunroof. Does the clock work?
