Turning off the alarm

Hi, I've been having issues with my battery draining quickly in the last couple of weeks. It appears that the battery is partly to blame but I was going to run some simple checks to see if there was anything in the car which was draining the battery. Is there any way of completely disarming the alarm (it's a PA1000) as everytime I remove one terminal connector the alarm goes off? Any help appreciated as the neighbours are getting a bit fed up.

If the PA1000 works like newer porsches then you have to leave the keys in the ignition (position I) before you disconnect the battery.
 
Thanks - it kind of worked. Alarm went off on disconnection but only on own battery which was low on power so not very loud. No alarm however on reconnection.
