996 C2 Coupe Tip (MY 03) - Used on Friday with no problems. Went to get car out of garage this afternoon to give it a spruce up and it woud not start. Engine turned over strongly so battery OK. On first turning the key the engine fired then stuttered and stopped. No warning light indications. Thereafter the starter spins the engine over OK but it will not start. Tank is half full. Checked fuel pump fuse and others but all OK. Undid fuel filler in case of air lock and apart from slight smell of petrol nothing obvious amiss. Gave it a rest and tried again but no joy. Never had this problem in 12 months of ownership and car has always behaved faultlesly. Any ideas please. If no joy then it will be a home relay tow on Monday to nearest Porsche OPC at Exeter (60 miles).

Update to above thread. Car taken to local garage who have experience of high performance cars (AMG Merc, Aston Martin, Porsche etc). Initial diagnostics indicate the Immobiliser may not be coming off although if the case this is not preventing the starter motor cranking which my understanding is it prevents.
Have checked all obvious problems of fuel pump relay, fuel pump (can hear it priming), enough fuel, flooded engine etc without success.
If transient fault it may clear with a re-boot on reconnecting the battery - tomorrows first task. If that does not work it could be a lengthy diagnostic timeframe.

I don't see how it could be the immobiliser, as the engine cranks and the fuel pump runs. The immobiliser inhibits the starter, fuel injectors, and ignition.
Not that I have a clue as to what it could be, I'm afraid.
Edit: I wonder if it might be the crankshaft position sensor has failed. It so, the DME would not get a signal, so wouldn't know when to fire the ignition coils. Did the specialist read out the fault memory? It should give an error code.

Update 2. Car lifted to Porsche Exeter who diagnosed fuel pump faulure. It primes but does not pump. Electrics and immobiliser OK. Big sigh of releif. Warranty kicking in and hopefully on the road by Friday.
Rumours that supermarket petrol with its additives, may not be the best for Porsche - any thoughts on this.
