Two 993-related questions!

1) - I have a minor oil leak emanating from the seal/gasket surrounding the timing chain cover of my 993 C2. Engine out job to replace/refit?

2) - At 48000 miles - should I be considering clutch replacement? (particularly if the answer to 1 above is 'yes - engine removal required')

993 owners with experience of either of the foregoing issues would be much appreciated.

mine has had minor oil leaks from cam and/or timing chain covers reported every service for last 10 years at least. never felt need to do anything about it. i'm still my original clutch at 70,000 miles or so. (though my previous 993 needed one at 45000 miles)

Agree with Nick.

My car spent first 6 years with a lady (as in member of house of lords) driver in London and needed a replacement clutch just after I bought it at 28K miles.
That clutch has now done 75K miles and still feels like new.

Location of oil leaks on mine change at each report, but there almost always is one. I did get the cam cover seals replaced but it didn't have much impact on the reports.

Also - engine does not need to come out to change clutch (on a C2 - and, if your mechanic is one of the cunning ones, on a C4)

Also agree with above.

The ones you will have to get sorted when required, are the cam box (especially lower) covers/seals/gaskets.
Mine had them done at 90k miles and again at around 180k, so you can see they are reasonably predictable []

Your mileage is a ‘spring chicken’ car - low mileage, though, so probably won’t need them yet.

JD try David Philips Edinburgh for advice and his labour rate is less than half of the OPC ...My 981Boxster
OPC major service 1500 DP 750 unless you want a stamp in the book ,I know your car and you may well want to have full stamped OPC book

Hi Brian - thanks for your DP suggestion. I guess that I'm still keen to have the OPC stamp in the maintenance booklet - and (unfortunately) the higher labour costs will follow!

Sorry I wasn't able to make PITG; wife and I were in Pittenweem that weekend. It looks to have been a fine day, with some great looking cars attending. Well done for organising.
