Two S2 'se' for sale at once !

Knowing how rare the 944S2 SE is I was suprised to find two for sale at the moment. People really must be getting out of 944's / cars in general IMHO. If I hadnt got a 944 at the mo and was looking for one then I would defo be tempted by the private sale one , mind you im always being bloomin tempted lol. Seriously though , there must be quite some rarity value to the collector in an SE.
One for sale on Flea Bay and one for sale on Piston Heads ,The 8995 trader one has been for sale in more than one place over a few months but the other one is quite 'modestly priced'. Are these rarer than a Silver Rose I wonder ? , I dont actually know how many SE were sold in right hand drive. I wonder what they did to the engine suspension etc exactly and I have never seen them discussed on a club forum.
I cant even find any real info on Google which is unusual for anything so they must be rare [;)]

Regards
Mas

I can here you cogs ticking, you wanna buy it don't you? i remember when i bought my car there were loads of silver roses for sale, i knew nothing then, and know little more now, are they special?

I can genuinely say my next Porsche will NOT be another 944 m8ee , I find them interesting especially these SE's for being so rare but two is enough for me and I have other Porsche things ringing in my head. Had I not just spent 500 on mine the other week and now with this new problem to sort I would have sold the 944 a few weeks ago, I am so pleased I didn't for obvious reasons. I love change its just the way I am with most things and 'Other' things are appealing to me at the mo [;)]

I am intrigued by the lack of info on the S2 SE though

Were the SE's not just the "stick some bits on at Reading to shift the last before the 968 comes out"

OK bit harsh but broadly speaking true

I think they were - CS wheel, superchip to 225 bhp and probably a badge or two. Nice to have if it is no more expensive and not rotten.
I very slightly quicker S2 for Oli maybe?

slightly quicker S2 for Oli maybe?
For me? Is it for me?

Oh good-ee! Another lovely S2, all for me! Thank you so much!

Where is it? When can I collect it? What colour is it? Does it come with a full tank of petrol?

Slightly quicker? Wow! My current S2 is so quick it makes it's own weather systems. Imagine how quick a quicker one would be! [:)]

Steve Kevlin who runs the Motorsport section for the Club used to work for Porsche Reading in the early 90's and he was directly involved with the S2 SE's. At a track day years ago some of us quizzed him about it and he recalled there were about 15 S2 unsold on a K Reg after the 968 came out so they basically threw everything nice in the parts bin at Reading onto these S2 and had some badges made up to call them an S2 SE.

They had the CS steering wheel, a Superchip for supposed 225bhp and some adjustable Koni Suspension (NOT M030 and not the normal S2 Sport suspension), and of course the SE badge on the back.

I'd like to have one, but I wouldn't pay much more than a normal S2 in the same condition.

Where's the smiley for "poor deluded soul" when you need one.

Pretty much spot on there Paul. I asked Steve about this following a particularly unknowledgeable reply to to a letter in 911&PW. Seemingly Steve, being something of a race driver himself, decided to produce what he considered to be the ultimate 944 with the parts available.......although not all the parts were readily available as the shocks came from Porsches motorsport division and wiped out their stock. Steve suggested the suspension might have been a little hard for some people but it was the way he wanted it.

Steve had one of the 15 cars and the others were offered for sale.

If the car is a true SE then it is one of only 15 so it does have some rarity value to a full on Porsche anorak. It is certainly rarer than a Silver Rose for example. Is it worth more than an S2 of similar vintage and condition?....Perhaps, but only us much as someone is willing to pay.

Exactly what Paul says plus;

suspension lowered by 30mm

and;

'SE' logos should be on the sides of each car produced. I just took this photo as an example sorry about the quality.

Can't seem to find the Ebay one, but the PH one doesn't have the logos or the correct steering wheel? nice car though & a good price.

Just found this;

It's quite difficult to read, but it seems to be a Porsche memo from Jan 2001. It outlines the specification for 15 S2 SE's to be produced

I don't know whee you dug those up from but they are very interesting. Personally I think the fact that they were 'only' a dealer conversion makes them even more interesting. I used to own a car called a Nova Sport and I doubt if anyone here has ever seen one. I was 19 ish with a wad of cash in my pocket and the local vauxhall dealer took a full page ad in the local paper saying x hundred made for homoglation 4 will be allocated to this dealer first come first serve or words to that effect. I rushed down there and they had one in the showroom , I looked at it drove it and bought it same day and what a machine it was.

It was basically a White Nova 1300 (C reg) with special decals different suspension and most importantly ( forgive me if I get it wrong) Twin Webber DC40 OE or something like that. The noise from the Webbers was sublime and it always got admiring glances even at car meets like High Beach that were full of RS2000 and Mexico's and the like. For posing around town it was a right snappy little car and regularly embarrased the local souped up Escorts [;)]

Now look what you've done memory lane.
Yes I really was a little petrol head in the early 80's [8D]

Wow Darren, where on earth did you get a copy of that memo?

That is now so saved onto my hard disk to be rolled out every time someone asks the SE question [:)]

Did anyone else notice the front ARB was a 31mm (more than the 30mm 968 M030 option) and the rear was an adjustable 18mm
