Two Sim Cards on One Mobile Phone Number

Have just got this sorted with Orange.

One SIM card goes in the Porsche Phone Kit in the car, the other in my mobile phone.

Mobile is the prime device for texts, etc. Car Kit is designated as first device that rings. If not on, then mobile rings.

Therefore once car is started, even with the mobile on, the car phone rings (mobile doesn't). Once ignition is turned off, mobile phone rings. Seamless from the dialer's perspective, who just call me on the one number and get routed either to the car kit or the mobile.

Sounds like a great solution. I actually called into an Orange store and asked about getting another Sim card and was told it was not possible to issue two Sims on one number. Guess I was just unlucky to find a rep who didn't know as much as she should have [&:].

Allan,

It's a right pain. You can only get it on a business tariff, not available in Orange stores. I had to transfer my personal tariff to a business (1 month wait) and then change the talk plan (another month's wait) before they enabled it.

Worth it in the end though.

Or buy a 'pay as you go' SIM.Copy all your contacts on to it from your mobile. Then place it permanently in the car. Then when you get in the car, 'divert all' from your mobile to the PAYG SIM.

Not quite as straightforward as doing nothing.

Also, when you call people will be from your PAYG number, different tariff, etc.

Thanks for the additional info. I think I'll stick to my PAYG solution.

I've done this.......... it's called 'Single Number' and only available on an Orange business tariff. It's a real pain to get it sorted and it took me two months also. Great now it's working though. I thought about PAYG but it's just too much hassle switching divrets on & off, especially for short journeys, I tried it for two months when waiting for the two Sims!

It is a bit of a hassle granted, but changing to a tarriff/netweork that probably won't suit, will likely be easily more expensive (was in my case) and is a lot of hassle in the first place may offset the benefits.

I think it should be possible to set up a single button divert on the phone. Haven't worked it out yet tho. Any ideas?

But.... you then have to call from the PAYG sim card in the car? meaning people will see your PAYG number and call you on that, not your normal number.

I've got a separate SIM on talkshare with Orange in my car and have witheld the number on the phone. I've also diverted calls from the car if unavailable to my handset on line 2 in case I forget to cancel the divert which means that I always receive my calls.

The system works fine for me so long as I have a handset which uses shortcuts for setting up and cancelling diverts. I had originally tried to obtain Single Number SIMs but at the time, two years ago, Orange had just started experimenting with it for corporate accounts. If I was to do it again, I would take the Single Number option.

Is this only available on Orange?
It seems to me if it is, and you're not already on Orange, you'd have to be running 2 concurrent contracts for a while, assuming you get Orange reception in your area (which I don't).

I have the same thing on Vodafone, I think it is called multi sim.
I don't know if it is business tariffs only though.

You can sign up as a new business customer & get {Single Number} two sim cards. One off charge of £30.00 + £3.00 per month for the second sim. My line rental is £33.00 per month for both sims, although I've been with Orange for years & years. I don't think you'd get such a good deal as a new sign up/

Multi Sim Vodafone is far more expensive than the Ornage option.

Akis,

What tariff have you switched to, and how much did it cost?

I've gone the PAYG route, and told people it's my car phone number.

Would much prefer to use the same number for both though

Business Tariff. Think it's about £50 per month - I'll have look it up.

Orange charge £30 for the 2nd SIM card and about £3 per month thereafter for the service.

The technology is there - just a matter of time until it's rolled out across all the networks. I'm sure a lot of users would be interested in running 2 mobiles on the same number - use a different one each day or one for work and one for going out, etc.
