Two Year Old Costs

My March 2002 2.7 is coming up for some big costs soon (second year service & warranty extension), my OPC (Merlin) has quoted the following:

Year 2 Service: £600 (Car has done 17K miles) - I know I could reduce this by supplying my own Mobil 1

Warranty "link" I year extn. (includes I year Porsche Assist) £830

Do these prices tally with your experiences?

All this plus the two new rear tyres shortly to be needed will make it an expensive March I think. Maybe I should put the money towards the new S they're still trying to persuade me to buy!

Regards

I asked about booking my car at the same place for the 24000 mile service. They gave me the price of the service and said it would require two days. I asked why they could not carry it out in one day. They said they could carry out the service work in the day, but would require the second day to repair the faults which they usually find!!

£££ way over the top for a 24000/2year service.

Extended warranty is about right but a waste of money IMHO.

it's well worth shopping around the OPC. as you will get very diffrent prices. i saved over £100 on my three year service by making a few phone calls and was also cheeky anough to ask is it included my 10% PCGB discount and they promptly took a further 10%.off (equal to paying for my PCGB years subscription) it was well worth the few extra miles travelling. they even collected and delivered the car back to my house at no extra charge.

my car is 3 years old and done about 35kish and it's never taken more than 1 day to service. even with a long journey time to the OPC.

At 17k miles you might consider having a second 12k (one year) service. I did and then had the 24k done at around 26k with no harm done. Saved myself about £300 in the year of the service.

It is worth shopping around. The three dealers in the Midlands seem to range about £100 on the 24k service between £550 and £650.

[;)]Why can't we have a Name & Shame Service Costs Sction and general service reports on how good bad or ugly our OPC's are.

It would be a great refs guide for all of us and save a lotta shopping around.

I think it should cover common repairs and replacement parts ie pads, discs tyres etc etc

Anyone want to get the powers to be interested?

daro, I have a 'Dealers' section on my site and you can name and shame on there if you like! Doing it here might be a tad dodgy as PCGB is an 'officially approved Porsche club'. Comments about OPC's are invariably quite emotive (good and bad).

If its any help, I had my 01 Boxster S' 24k service done at OPC East London last year for 675 quid. This included the recommended 2 yr brake fluid change which I think accounted for approx 135 quid. Is it possible they included this in your quote? Otherwise I would agree with others that it sounds steep. The Mobile one was 98 quid + VAT!!
