Hi, sorry for a newbie question - what type and brand of oil exactly should I use in my 997 C2S? Thanks for your help...

Hi Igor,

Welcome, no need to apologise.
I use Mobil 1 0W-40 which I believe is the Porsche approved brand.
On the inside of the engine lid there should also be a sticker recommending this too.
Hope that helps.

James

£38.39 for 5lt from Halfords! They have knocked 20% off their previous price so is pretty good value now. No doubt someone near a Costco will get it cheaper!!

Last check at Costco was just under £23 for 4ltr. You will need 8 1/2 litre (if fully replacing, I think someone mechanical can confirm for 997s) but I guess you are just topping up? But worth knowing as best to take your own oil if doing a main dealer service,

There are about 60 approved engine oils - there is no need to stick to Mobil 1 (and oil experts might argue there are better lubricants on the approval list)

I too have heard that Mobil 1 is far from the best. Where is the approved list found?

A quick google search for oil TSB will provide plenty of lists.
I have one that I can email to you but only as a PDF(which I can't upload here)

Speak to the people at opie oils, they know a lot about the various oil options, and yes mobil 1 is ok but not one of the best.
