Do all 924's run on unleaded? The one I've bought which is being dropped off next Sunday is a 1980 vintage.

yes both the 924 and the "S" run fine on unleaded petrol, i have always used super unleaded but i've just got money to burn [:D]

The short answer is YES.

However the youngest 2.0 is from 1985 and the 'S' 1988.

In the intervening years each engine has weathered differently - it is entirely up to each owner to decide whether it is neccesary to further 'protect' their engine with higher octane fuel, or to use an octane booster - this is the view of Porsche Club GB and the 924 Register.

See 'Crisis? What crisis?' in '911 & Porsche World' December 1998 issue for a article on the subject.

Here in Marlow 99 octane leaded 4* is available.(Bayfords) but it getting on for £1.12p a litre, and the tubo drinks it,(19-25 mpg) so I am going to try half and half, i.e. 99 leaded+97 unleaded to give me the recommended 98 in the tank. Before you laugh, back in the day when you could select the grade you wanted from those that were available, the garages only stocked two grades, the lowest and the highest, usually 99, and the pump blended them on demand. The octane rating to blend ratio is pretty linear at those values. Net result, 98 in the tank, enough lead to look after those expensive turbo valves and seats, and at a price that only half breaks the bank.

I remember from motocross racing that mixing leaded and unleaded gave a higher octane rating, but this was unreliable every time you mixed it so it was better to run race fuel.

My car seems to run the same whatever unleaded I put in it.

It's a basic 924 1980 vintage.
