assuming you dont drive like a total lunatic (most of the time)
How often would you expect to change your tyres on a 996 C2 FWIW I will be having a full new set of Pirellis put on this week and I wanted to gauge how long I reckon they might last me. (I'm guessing 10 - 12k miles but I'm an optimist)

I used to get about 12000 from Pirelli P-Zero Rossos on the rear of my C2, and 24000+ from the fronts. I don't think you are being over-optimistic

Glad to hear that, sort of think I wanted to hear, I was getting scared to go further than the chip shop in case my tyres wore out[:)]

On Continentals, 4500 miles to 1.6mm on the rears and 18000 miles to 4mm on the fronts.

summat don't seem right with these figures, how can contis go that quickly and pirellis last so much longer, it's a massive difference!

Would I expect the rear wheels of C2 to burn more rubber than C4 rears?

I'm not alone in getting that sort of mileage from other tyres: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=559103

Only got 4000 miles out of a pair of Contis on the rear of my Turbo.

I'd suggest you consider Michelins before you plump for the Pirellis - you might not get a huge addtiional mileage front he front ones, but you should see 25% more mileage fromt he rears (i know of two cases where PZeros lasted 5-6k on the rears, but same car/drivers got 10-12k with Michelins). Overall Michelin are probably the cheapest tyre per mile, despite the higher initial cost.

+1 with the lifespan of the Michelins.

i am a bit bemused by all the negative comments on contis!
i picked my car up last year, it had brand new sport contact n2 on all 4 corners, since last august i have nearly put 8k miles on the car, 4.5k of those were holidays in germany and austria plus 8 laps of the ring last month, i have got over 5mm on the backs and over 6.5mm on the fronts,
i must be doing something wrong, as everyone says there rears are destroyed by 4k miles!
i do run mine at what the garage reccomend, which is no where near what porsche say!
also have had mine remapped so even more pressure on the rears[:D]

I've just put some Bridgestone S02's on the rear, will let you know how many miles I get from this set!
