TYRE Change and TPMS

Hi
Just about to get winter tyres fitted to my 981 which has TPMS.
Can anybody tell me. What do the tyre fitters need to do to make sure they don't break them, & they still work afterwards?
Thanks
Jon

Depending what wheels size you have it certainly was the case a few years ago that for the Gen 1 Cayman S it was recommended to use 18" wheels and winter tyres since 19" were not commonly available but popular for summer use and so many bought a second wheel set with their winter tyres and in some cases TPMS sensors ready fitted but maybe you can get suitable N rated winter tyres for the 981 at the tyre size you are using. From what you say I guess that you are changing just the tyres but PC's do a good deal on sets of wheels with winter tyres and they remind me of it every year even though I took mine in with my winter set fitted!! I'd expect to just tell them at the tyre fitters that you have TPMS fitted. Remember that there are a limited number of times for refitting tyres due to possible damage to the tyre bead and the wear rate of winter tyres seems to be extremely slow.

They need to be told you have TPMS - very common these days so should be ok. Avoid A£S - they are so hit and miss in my experience - go for a local small trusted firm and they will look after you.

Thanks both, I will tell them i have TPMS and stand over them. Yes i am swapping tyres only, TBH as i do 20k per year, each tyre set will only likleyget one 'extra' change anyway. i did it with my last car, and never seemed to have any problems. Cheers Jon

Jon, if you go to Black Boots out at Chesham they will look after you and your TPMS wheels. They regularly look after my carbon wheels and I have never had any issues with my TPMS afterwards.

Just had my wheels / tyres swapped for the winter It's a simple selection from the tyre pressure display on the MF screen. Pick the wheel size fitted, then it goes into a learning mode for a few minutes - that's it done I'm not sure if the 'learning' should be done with the tyres cold, or moving? Doubt it makes a huge difference

Yes that's what I did and all works fine. In fact the sensor seemed to work immediately any way , but i selected learn anyway. I notice there where separate menu items for 18 summer tyres, and 18 winter tyres. Strange as they are the exact same size.
