Tyre Choice for 993RS

Need to replace my 993 RS Bridgestone Potenza SO2's so interested in current tyre choice for road and some track day use. Have run Michelin Pilot Sport Cup's in the past (awesome on track) but want something a bit more road friendly. Any thoughts?

there are a few.. BUT not many even and got the Porsche N rating.....

and the ones you had are prob' the better of the bunch......

there is a list of approved tyres.. somewhere [8|]

Bridgestone are still making the S02 in Porsche sizes and N ratings.

Whilst more modern designs may be better in the reviews, they were never tested with the 993

Nigel i am running Dunlop Super S[port Race , on a clubsport , great wet Track days , not as sticky as Cup tyres dry but not far off.................excellent longevity and road use ......direct from Dunlop Birmingham i used 225 and 265[ with wet in ind narrower the better!]

Nigel,
I agree with Vic and only run one type of tyre all the year round on my 993RS. I also use a road legal track tyre from Dunlop:- "D01J - Formula R".
On the fronts I run 235x40xzr18
On the rears I run 265x35xzr18

These tyres are good in all conditions on the road and work really well as a track tyre.
I find the wear rate is very low compared to Michilin Pilot cup sports and you can order them direct from Dunlop Motorsport Division on 0121 306 7002.

Over the 6 years I have owned the RS I have tried most of the track based road tyres on the market but I think the Dunlop gives the best overall performance for your money.

Hope this helps

Regards

John

For road use, and light track use (esp in the wet), you could consider Pirelli P-Zero Rossos:

F - 225/40 ZR 18 N4
R - 285/30 ZR 18 N4

They would be an excellent road tyre, but would probably not be ideal for hammering round a dry hot track, and you may get a bit more understeer.

My mate Ron Savege does approx the same amount of miles on / off track & he uses Dunlop Super Race as his only tyres on his 993RS.

From personal experience I can say they are OK on the road (slighlty noisier & less comfortable than proper road tyres) but great on track even in the wet & cold.

Nigel,

I have only just come across this thread. Have a look here:

Not only are the SSR a good tyre, they are also cheap as chips using this supplier. I have ordered 235/40-18 fronts and 265/35-18 rears. I just hope the 235 fronts don't rub on rolled front wheel arches because my Manthey suspension is very low.
