Tyre choice

A friend of mine lives in Hong Kong and has just bought his 1st 993 and wants to change the tyres. Its currently on Pirelli P-Zeros. Anybody got any thoughts. I've got a 996 which is also on Pirelli's and I have no problem with them.

hi,,,

mine is a 2S and I have had P.Zero Rosso's...

225 front 285 rear,,,,, v good in the dry,,,,, not so good in the wet,, but I always put that down to the width at the rear,.,,,,

wear,,, after 5000miles,,, front about 40% wear,, and rears,,,,,,,, about 1mm off the wear indicators..... they are quite soft,,,, but soft gives you the grip.....

would buy again,,,,,, but bank on two sets of rears to one set of fronts,....

previous car had bridgestone SO2s, they were good also........

cheers
Scott..

I have 285's on rear,,

1997 C2S,,,, 10" rim

p.zero rossos,,,,,,,, look good,,, but dont last to lon gon the back,,,,, about 5000ish !

would like p.zero corsa's,, b

regards
Scottie

maybe a strange choice Maurice, but I have been told the speedlines are a very strong wheel making them ideal for track use

Thanks for your help, if i can find SO2's with rim protection I'll go for those in the 265/225 combination as advised.
Micheldever tyres seem to offer the best deals, any other ideas would be welcome.

cheers Chris.

ORIGINAL: MoC2S

And I suppose I'd better mention Mel's favourite of Wraysbury Tyres ..... depends where you are, of course.

Why, thankyou Maurice!!

Was down there today getting new slicks on rims. They also have a motorbike accessory shop.

They will also, shortly, be able to fill yer tyres with nitrogen.

What don't you like about the bridgestones?? I've been running SO2s for 5,000 miles (inc 3 trackdays) and am happy with performance in both dry and wet. Michelins have had good reports so I was thinking of trying those next. I was thinking of buying some lightweight wheels for my 4S, let me know how you get on (christmas is coming after all!!)

Maurice - rant away my man[:)], there's not enough ranting in the world with political correctness strangling the life out of us all (ok off soap box now).

Dave - I guess the message is fit the same all round, as i mentioned let me know how the lighter wheels feel[:D]

Hi again
I wondered why the car was not well, I purchased the car from Autofarm two and a half years ago, it ran like a dream. Last year I discovered the rear tyre pressure was very low, beware, check on a regular basis, ( 18 psi) had the wheels and tyres checked and was told the tyres were damaged, wheels OK, when I inflated to the correct pressure (46 psi) I had a very bad vibration. This turned out to be tyre degregation from the inside, now the reason for SO3 tyres , my local tyre supplier advised that my type SO2s were no longer available hence SO3s
I never drove the car over the winter and when I did earlier this year it felt loose at the back end, although not that bad I just presumed the SO3s just didn't suit the car.
Anyhow consider me reprimanded Maurice, I will either try the Pirelli or find SO2s for the rear, I have not decided to keep or sell my solid spoke wheels yet.
I will let you know how the car drives Michael, but I presume anything will be better than mixed tyres ?

Thanks people

Micheal
Try Jasmin Porsche Motor Sport they have a set of Twin Turbo wheels for £1275.00 + vat refurbished, the person in your life (is this politically correct) might just arrange with Santa to give you a happy Christmas.

Just catching up on posts after being away for sometime and couldn't help but notice the number of "Conti's are horrible" comments. I've loved mine to bits, on track and off in cold damp weather!

So what's been your issues?

As an aside, have just got all 4 tyres changed from Conti N1's to N2's at Elite for an unbelieveable £499.

Maurice, just out of interest, why 34F 36R?

Can't you "lower" the pressures in proportion to get the softer effect?
i.e. Recommended = 36F 44R (18s), therefore, say 32F 40R?

Sorry if this sounds pedantic, but from all the banter on this forum about how critical things like this are, I wondered what you thought...
