Currently have 18" Pirelli P-zero N4s all round on the car (MY03 C2 Coupe Tip). Rears are down to about 2-3mm and with long continental journey in the offing seems sensible to change them. Fronts OK at about 4-5mm. Having got quotes it would seem that Continental N2s are slightly cheaper than Pirelli N4s by about £15ea - even at my local OPC which are competitive with other tyre places. Adrian Streather's excellent 996 book suggests that Continental's give better all round performance than Pirelli, latter which are not so good in the 'wear department'. Having said that the Pirellis at the rear have done about 18K and the fronts over 20K. Can I mix front and rear axles - say Contis on the rear and keep the existing Pirellis on the front until they are due for renewal or is that unwise?

i was in your position a few weeks ago , i had conti's all round , rears knackered after 4000mils ! changed rears to pirellis and kept fronts as contis ( still had life in them ) result was bad , psm coming on mid corner at speeds as low as 40mph also handling with psm off was not ' comfortable ' so changed front to pirellis and car and driver happy again , apart from extra £300. Also i would say the contis seem to drive nicer at speed but the wear rate did grate somewhat.

Many thanks - looks like Pirelli for me to maintain same all round as recommended by Porsche.
