Tyre choices..944s2

Hi all, just wondering what peoples choice of black circles are,
Im currently shopping for 2 rears 255 40 17.
I have bridgestone so2 on at moment and they have been good, compared to toyos,When down to just legalBridgestone are better in wet
So I have read quite a few reviews, if I can have some opinions it would possibly help to make my mind up.
What I have reviewed; Uniroyal,the rain tyre, but some have said , poor wear rate.
Kumhos,Seems to be a good all round(cheaper) tyre.
Vredstein: I like the thread pattern on these!! good comments
Bridgestone so2;Using them happy enough(monster money here)
Pirelli, have not used them, comments quite good but is it a 60 better tyre then some of others?
Money is not the issue,its just Icant seem to justify 140 euro extra on 2 tyres...Vreds v Pirelli
O and I have done 2 previous track days, may do 1 or 2 in next set,,possibly 0, car is my DD and all year round(6,8000 miles)

If you've not already been on this site then it should prove useful http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/ . It brings together both independent European magazine tests and consumer reviews . The current crop of tyres in your size which consistently score highly are : Dunlop SP SportMaxx RT , Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 , Michelin Pilot Sport 3 & Continental Sport Contact 5 .
I've also found this site helpful in the past http://www.tyrepriceadvisor.co.uk/ although there are some competitively priced tyre suppliers not listed on here such as Camskill & Oponeo .
 
I had some Michelin Pilot Sport 3s recently fitted to my car. They seem to grip well in the dry and are great in the wet. I have done around 700 miles on them so far

The rear of my car (on PS2s) have been great and still have around 4mm left since they were fitted over 12k ago.
 
Pilot Sport 3 on the front of mine and Toyo T1R on the rear. I'm going to be changing the rears for PS3s soon though.

I've done the Nurburgring and two damp track days on my road tyres and they've been great.

I am tempted by Yokohama AD08Rs all round though to save taking a second set of track wheels and tyres with me but I'd want to know a bit more about how they behave in the wet first as the PS3s are very good in that respect and can handle the odd track day too.
 
Thanks for the feedback so far lads, I have actually purchased from Camskill..(.cheaper even with conversion rate), and I have been on the review site, just need to be reassured and make up my mind.
 
I had Toyo T1rs on my S2 front and rear and they lasted around 14K miles gripped really well and looked good, then had Toyo T1 Sports on which performed the same with a little longer life, finally had Toyo T1sports on the front and Uniroyal rainsport 2 on the rear 255/40/17 excellent in the wet no signs of wear after a couple of thousand miles and good in the dry.
 
Tyre life is something missing from the reviews unfortunately... The Toyos I have tried (CF1s and TR1s I think) lasted about 12k miles... and then I was really uncomfortable on them in the wet. The Winter Continentals have lasted 13k miles, not out (but getting down a bit - not long of this wold - I think they are TS830s, however, the old Pirellis which everyone seems to hate.. P7s about 25k miles, and P6000 about 30k miles. P6000s however, go 'orrid when they get more than a couple of years old. If anyone else can let me know any longer lasting tyres (apart from Michelins, I loath them with a vengeance) I would be interested to hear... I get fed up with having to replace tyres twice a year.
 
T1-Rs on the cars I have had with them seem to last no time at all, and tend to go off colour once they wear below 4mm. I also find they lack any feel thanks to super squishy sidewalls. But a friend of mine loves them on his Golf Quattro.

Contis are great, but they do not last much longer than Toyos as you have said Tref.

The P6000s seem to have their ditchfinder reputation for the fact that most of the examples referred to are at least a few years old. Most tyres go off once they hit 3-5 years old though truth be told.

I was going to suggest Michelins since they seem to grip well down to the legal limit and last almost in geological time, although I see you have discounted them :).
 
I like to say my loathing is irrational... It is from empirical evidence really... I have never fallen off the road on Pirellis, but I have on Michelins... twice! (and no, not the same set... I decided that it was an irrational hatred so tried them again... and wish I hadn't!)
 
I shall be honest, I have once come off the road with Michelins, which is where I found their weakness. Basically, they do not do cold weather at all (It was very cold that night mind you, and I was going down a muddy country lane..., at other times in another car with Michelins it was simply useless in the snow where others were OK (climbing hills for example etc.))! It is strange, since in dry and wet conditions they grip very well IME.

However, since then I went onto using winter tyres, which even with tyres other than Michelins do keep the car more surefooted, and that is with BF Goodrich Wintergrips of all things!

A man in an S2000 running AD08Rs all year round convinced me that they're fine in the wet, well he was still alive and S2000s have a bit of a reputation for being wayward in the damp.

So I'm going to remove the PS3s from the front and fit AD08RS all round this week. I'm amazed at how little wear the PS3s have on them though, granted they've not even done 2500 miles but they've spent a couple of hours on track too.
 
Quite a few track biased tyres I have driven with (including the Toyo R888s on my 205) are not that bad in the wet at all if I am honest. You do become a cropper upon even sensing standing water mind you...
 
That's where the AD08s come into their own apparently, they're even rated a "B" for wet weather performance.

I once drove through a monsoon in the 944 on Cups after negotiating ice earlier in the day - it was erm . . . Interesting
 
Now that is interesting. When I brought my 205 back from the 'ring on R888s it was one of the wettest summers on record in the UK. To put it politely, it was an one experience driving during monsoon season in the 1st lane at night time all of the way back to Warwickshire. In the damp they surpassed the KwickShit ditchfinders that I bought the car with.

Nankang NS-IIRs are meant to be a halfway tyre between the track tyres and road tyres (some users have said they are a couple of seconds quicker than a Goodyear Eagle F1), being quite good in the wet as well apparently. Of course they will barely last over 10k, and being an R rated compound they are a little noiser than summer tyres.

And that's enough of me deviated from the poster's original question. It shall be interesting to see what you go with.
