Tyre choices - GOODYEAR F1 GSD3 ?

Hi,

I know the PORSCHE bible states 'N' rated tyres, but there are lot of owners out there esepcially in the renlist forums who use other tyres.

There has been some very good reports of the GOODYEAR F1 GSD3, any views ?

Currently a newbie 996 owner and find the noise levels from the Michelin Pilot Sport tyres bloody awful on 18" rims, my 993 targa was much quiter on Conti Sports N2.

I know tyres are a personal thing, but before I replace mine I would appreciate some personal experiences - thanks

Mark

I have had some maxxis tyres fitted to mine (996 C4) and the noise is driving me insane. They were cheaper (less than £400 for a set of 4 on 18 inch rims) but now I regret the purchase. They were recommended as really good and since I was going to use it on the track I thought I would try them. Which tyres are the quiestest or best?

I have used GSD3s (not on a porsche) and they are a very good tyre. Superbe wet grip, good ride comfort and low noise. Only dry grip on Pirelli P-zero is better.

Toyo Proxes are meant to have excelent dry grip, not so good in wet. They are usually 30% cheaper than the big names, they get a good write up.

A huge generalisation but.....

soft compound = good grip = more road noise = higher wear rate

you can't have everything
