Tyre Experiences

Evening All,

Just bought a 911 SC and what a fab car, amazing really for the age it feels so well and together.

Anyway, the car requires a few new tyres and I was wondering what the 'norm' is, or what experiences you have had with differing tyres.

I have read about the tyres should have an 'N' mark to show they are 'Porsche Approved', but I was thinking about getting Toyo Proxies T1 thingys.

Cheers

Ian

Hi Ian, Have changed my tyres on 911 SC Targa to set of Pirelli p-zero N3 directional tyres. Best tyres I have tried to date. Have fun.

Hi Ian, my suggestion is Bridgstone S02 N rated, they work really well and are made only in N porsche rating, they are not expensive in the 16" sizes either, try micheldever tyres

You don't have to have N rated tyres on an earlier car -just make sure that they are all the same!

I believe N ratings only came in in 1990.

I have the same as Bruce Bridgestones SO2 have found them to be very good but you might have have to hunt around for SO2s now as they have replaced them with SO3s which have not had as good reports on here. Also some peeps have raved about Sumho Ecstas very good value for not a lot of money.

Thanks Guys.

Went for P-Zero's in the end, as I have them on my day use car.

Mitcheldever, what a service.....Even got some chrome tyre valve covers....

Thanks

Ian

When I had my SC, I had Pirelli P6000s fitted all round after the differing front and rear axle makes it had previously. The transformation was great and I would definitely recommend these for your SC. It's not worth buying more expensive N rated tyres as they weren't even developed when the car was built and the Pirellis are more than up to the job!

I've got Yokohama AVS's on my SC.I got them very cheap from my OPC as they were on a set of basic Boxster 16" alloys. The owner then deciding he wanted 17" cups after ordering a standard car and deciding it didn't look right on 16"s.
They give an excellent ride and grip is very good especially in the wet compared to the Dunlop D40 M2's I had before.I don't do many miles a year so durability isn't an issue but as I only paid £200 for the set of four fitted and balanced,I don't really care. Moral: If someone from your OPC comes to club nights, buy them a drink occasionally!!
Steve.
