Well, I now have my second set of Cup 1's, having picked them up on my first visit to Oulton last Wed (which BTW was something else after KH!). Did someone post something about a really good tyre-fitting place in Glasgow some months ago? My search hasn't turned it up but I seem to remember something about its being near Charing Cross. These new wheels are immaculate and I don't want them wrecked. Any help much appreciated.

This isn't the one you're looking for, but I did find a good tyre guy recently.
www.etyres.co.uk - it's a franchised operation and the bloke who has the Glasgow franchise is really, really good. The idea is that you order your tyres online, specifying what day/time you want them fitted, and your local franchisee comes out to you in his van with all the tyre fitting equipment on board. Their prices are very competitive and fitting etc is all included.
Now, rather than ordering and booking online, pick out what you want and phone our local man: Craig Brierley on 07866 548 853. He reckons that he can get the tyres in and get to you even faster if you contact him direct.
Craig's based in Giffnock and covers the whole Glasgow area"”maybe further afield if you call direct.

The only person i have ever found any good and would look after your wheels is drivers at Charing Cross in Glasgow.
The owner is called George Gibson - (he was a neighbour of Mike Nisbet)
Last time they charged £8/wheel to remove a tyre and fit a new track ones, included balancing. They even torqued the wheels to the correct setting.
You have to book in to have the work done as they are very busy.

Scott.

Be interested to hear how a new guy (eg Craig Brierley) does.
I tried Performance Tyres in Anniesland a few months back (following the recommendation found in a thread on here)....but....
While they were quick at getting the tyres and did not damage my wheels, I was not impressed when they could not remove one of my wheels "because your locking wheel nut is damaged and I don't want to strip it"....
Well, OK, maybe that's being very considerate....but their solution was to send me to a garage next door to see if they could help out (like Performance Tyres could not be bothered to take charge of the situation and solve it for me).
The man next door came along with a big hammer and solved it in 2 seconds.
So anyway, once the tyres were sorted I headded off to the OPC and purchased a new set of locking wheel nuts. When I removed the old locking nuts I found the only problem was a burr making it a bit more of a push to get the key on. I filed it off, completely solving the problem and returned to the OPC who kindly refunded my money for the new nuts.
Overall, I'd probably go back to Performance Tyres, but I felt they could have been more helpful. It was a million times better than going to KFC.
Having just seen Scott's reply on Drivers - good idea. I've not used them for tyres - but from the very professional way they did my audio they have to be worth a try.

I'm surprised everyone likes Drivers so much"”they're definitely good guys, and very honest, but I found them really expensive.
I've been happy with Performance Tyres in the past, but Craig from eTyres did a quicker and cheaper job and was very friendly to boot. Pleased with the service I got from both, to be honest.

Hi all
I used performance Tyres in Anniesland and they were generally helpful on several occasions but their prices were worse than George Morrisson's recommendation of Prestige Tyres in Busby. http://www.prestigetyres.co.uk/index.htm .
Prestige were excellent and I saved some cash, you might want to try them.

I would never go back to Prestige Tyres in Busby, even although they are two minutes from the house - the last time i went there i got eight tyres swopped over - they charged £80 and they marked two of the 993 turbo alloys - the owners attitude to me was nothing short of rude, and he openly said to me that he wasnt interested in changing tyres for anyone that hadnt bought them there - i was simply swopping track tyres from one set of wheels to an other, the actual guys that worked in the garage were a bunch of neds. ( and i had actually taken all the wheels of the car for them)
drivers on the other hand were £8/tyre and that included them taking the wheels of the ferrari and putting them back on !
pay peanuts and you get monkeys ! greasy ones !
maybe they have changed ?

Well Drivers did a great job for me - SO2s removed from the old wheels and fitted/balanced on the new ones, Charles's intermediates fitted/balanced on the old wheels, the track wheels in the boot and even used nitrogen to inflate them all. Why nitrogen? - apparently the pressure doesn't increase so much when they get hot. All 8 wheels done for £71.92 with no damage and very cheery fitters!
I wasn't buying tyres so that may be a different story.

Just back from Jim Dickson Tyres Cumbernauld had 4 new tyres fitted and balanced on my new run around Merc CLK and again he was the cheapest by a mile from all the other outfits even cheaper than Camsill when you add on the fitting costs once you have them delivered, and the fitter was first class even pointed out a couple off small scuffs before he stated I am taking in my sons car next week to have 4 new tyres fitted and again the price is excellent I can recommend this company this is the 4 time I have done business with them

Dont bother with extra cost for nitrogen..as you need to get the" std air " out . completely from the tyre...then after a track day you go and blow your tyres up for road use ..hey presto youve just added fresh air into tyre !!!!! CU all G
They didn't charge for the nitrogen, just used it without asking, at no extra charge because they were to be track wheels, so another gold star for Drivers. [] I knew nothing about the nitrogen but I did wonder about topping up the pressure and thought you'd probably have a cylinder of nitrogen, Gordon .......... It'll be the footpump then?
Latest tyre inflation technology uses 30% Nitrogen 70% Argon ( Porsche mag Excellence May 08 ). The advantage is less air leakage both into and out of the tyre and even less expansion in heavy ( track ) use.. An unexpected bonus is that unsrung weight is reduced sl as the N/Ar mix is lighter than air.
Very few of the conventional tyre fitters use it but most cup teams now fill the tyres with NAr
