Hi all,
Am looking for some advice. I have a 2006 987 Boxster running 18" "S" wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres of the following sizes and reminaing tread depths.
Front 225/40/18 min tread depth 5mm / 4.5mm
Rear 265/40/18 min tread depth 3mm /2.5mm (inner edge of near side tyre, outer edge and center closer to 3mm)
The MOT is due now and obviously the tyres meet the legal 1.6mm but I think I saw somewhere that Porsche recommends tyres should be swapped at 3mm. Is there anyway that the OPC can refuse to issue a certificate and push me into getting new tyres fitted?
The car will go back into hiding in the warm and is unlikely to be driven for a couple of months so lashing out money on tyres just after christmas isnt high on my list of priorities!!.
My other question relates to what should be fitted to car in the first place, every time I put the reg number into tyre websites they come up with the following sizes
Front 225/40/18
Rear 265/35/18
The 35 profile REARS are coming out significantly cheaper than the 40 profile, will this have any impact on the handling of the car? What do Porsche actually specify?
Many thanks in adavance
Paul
