does anybody know of any devices for putting air into tyre's, would make checking and topping them up a lot easier than having to go to a garage every week.

How about the one you should have in your tool kit?  [;)]
thought they were a use once thing, but better have a look at the manual now[:D]not really delved in that bit of the car yet[:D]

If you don't like the car one, this is very good.

The one in your toolkit is very good as it's very fast, but you'll need to get a seperate gauge as the built in one isn't accurate

I use a combined 12 volt jumpstart/compressor to top up my tyres. They are very easy to carry around the car to inflate each tyre as required. You can also buy small compressors from Halfords etc that plug into the 12 volt socket to avoid having to get to the the tool kit one.

Just edited my post to remove the link as against forum rules. These units have a internal battery (mine has an 18Ah one) and they are recharged using a 230v 'wall wart' charger that gives out 12v at about 500ma, so recharge in a couple of hours or so. They also can recharge from 12v sockets, but it takes longer this way (and will drain the donor battery). Also it's very useful to have a 12v jump start available when people have flat car batteries and for power cuts etc (they normally have a light on them). They come in various sizes/prices, so it's worth looking around for one that fits the bill.

Overall, I've found mine to be pretty useful (I've had it for about 5 years), but eventually the battery will start to give out/won't take a full charge, in common with most battery types.

how much is the wall wart charger?
so you cant just plug it in to the mains to charge it then?

Thanks Richard, I've just started posting and wanted to keep to the rules/wasn't sure about posting links to commercial websites.

I have a brand new, unused 12v one with built in pressure gauge I can let you have for £15 + p&p. Plugs into the vehicle's power socket. PM me if you would like it. [;)]

The 'wall wart' (mains) charger comes with the jump start/compressor; this plugs into a normal 3-pin 230v domestic mains socket and has a 12v connector on a lead from the wall wart that fits into a (12v) socket on the jump start/compressor. The jump start/compressor has a LED next to the where the 12v connector plugs in that illuminates to show that the unit is taking a charge.

(there is also a 12v plug/connector lead to plug into a 12v car lighter socket, as per my previous post).

You can just about see the LED and socket on the jump start/connector on the Machine Mart website)

Hope this helps....

I bought a unit very similar to this for my MGF from Robert Dyas for less than £30 about a year ago. I don't know if they still do them. Certainly I have found it very reliable.
