Tyre life

What would the average tyre life for a Boxster 2.7 (987) be- assuming not used on the track? (I have the factory fitted Continentals on 17" wheels)

Hi Ian,

In my first year of owning a used 2001 986 2.7 I managed to go through a pair of rear tyres in 4500 miles! - However I think that this was due to not checking the trye pressues frequently enough. The pair after that (when I checked the pressures weekly!) managed to last 9000 miles - and possibly a bit longer but the snow came and I decided to change them.

It depends on several factors:
To name a few: Correct tyre pressure; make of the tyre, found Michelins to give better mileage than say Pirelli, think Conti comes in-between(?); how is your 0-30mph at traffic lights?; how about cornering speeds; hit the curbs or potholes lately, is the suspension geometry correct, major cause for uneven wear?

...and the rears would give almost half the mileage than the fronts; I know of individuals who have only managed 5K wheras other going strong on 20K.

I've got a 987 2.7 and just covered 24500 miles since having it new last March. I am running with 18" boxster S alloys. I changed the rears at 13,000 miles and am still on the originals on the front. The rears will soon need replacing again, so I'm banking on changing them at 26,000. I think there's still more life left in the fronts and should take me to 28,000 - 30,000miles.
