Tyre losing pressure

Hi Folks, one of my targa wheels keeps losing pressure. I pump it up to 36lbs and over a week it will drop to 30lbs but doesn't appear to go any lower no matter how much longer I leave it (I don't drive it at this lower pressure obviously). There doesn't appear to be anything visible sticking into the tyre. Are there any classic symptoms that will tell me if it's the tyre or the wheel that's leaking?

Many thanks,

David.

Over inflate it then put it into a barrel of water and submerge, then look for bubbles.

Is the rim damaged at all? With tubeless tyres the integrity of the seal between the rim and tyre bead can be affected by any irregularity in the wheel.

Also, have you checked that the valve is screwed in properly? Pump up and then apply thin layer of moderately cohesive liquid (spit is quite good) on the top of the valve and see if bubbles form. If they do then it's a simple job with the right tool to tighten the valve up.

Good luck

Take it to a tyre fitter and ask for the tyre to be removed and re-sealed. They'll clean the rim up and put a new valve in it. It was the cure for mine when I had a similar problem.

Regards

Thanks Folks, checking for bubbles, takes me right back to when I was a kid on my bike! I'll have a play and see if it shows up, failing that it's off to the local tyre man (careful with those rims please!).

Thanks again,

David.

Finally sorted, took it down to my local Kwik-Fit and they found that it was leaking between tyre and rim. They took the tyre off cleaned up the edges and now it's holding pressure - and free of charge!

David.

Had similar problem myself on previous car and it was down to leaking wheel/tyre rim edge, got it refitted at ATS[:)]
