Tyre noise on Michelin Pilots

My 2004 Boxster S is noiceably noisier at speed than my previous 2000 model and I can only deduce that it is the tyres as nothing else is markedly different from the previous model. On my earlier car I had Pirelli P-Zero's. Has anyone experienced similar noisy tyres on Michelins? The tyres are nearing renewal so should I go back to Pirellis or what do you suggest as a replacement?

Back in 2004, Autocar changed the tyres on their long term 996 from Michelins Pilots to Pirelli Rossos and concluded that it was quieter, rode more comfortably, and handled better. And, I was told that the Pirellis weigh a touch less than the Michelins.

On the flip side, Michelins may have a longer life.

On my 964 which suffers badly with tyre noise, the P-Zero Rossos fitted recently are significantly quieter than the Continentals they replaced on most surfaces.

19" Michelins are noisier than 18" and 997s on Michelin is noisier than Cayman or Boxster. Tyre wear is also poorer than Pirelli. See the tread on the 997 Forum

I don't know about noise, but the Michelin fronts on my Boxster lasted 34000 miles! They were still legal when replaced.

Perhaps that's the problem - they're made of bakerlite[;)]
