Hi

I am in the market to change my tyres on my Cayman. Does anyone have any idea which is best Bridgestone or Mitchellin tyres for a 56 plate car?

Regards

Alun

Hi, I've used both on 19" wheels and there seems little to choose between them in the driving. Bridgestone are a lot less expensive and I've only so far done about 7,000 miles on them but wear seems quite good and should approach the nearly 20,000 I did on the Michelins, I did like the Michelins and found them better than the Continentals fitted when I bought the Cayman. Having said all of that I'm very pleased with the grip of the Bridgstones and general feel, certainly no call for complaint and given the choice I'll go for Bridgestones if only to save about £400 per set.

20,000? Is that for a set of fronts? I have never got more than 10k out of a set of rears on any RWD car before.

Still had tread 1.5mm on fronts and almost 1mm on rears at 19,000 but decided to renew as it was coming into winter and couldn't be sure they would be available since when really needing them not always available, plus the car was in the shop for a new chrono to be fitted as mine had blown and taken out all the column electrics. Got 14,000 on the rears with Conti's.

I had contis on the cayman when new April 06 they lasted 7 k miles when I changed for michelins they were still only half worn or better when I sold it at 18 k miles and felt so much better to drive- I would always choose the pilot sport option

Wallachie, I'd suggest you have your alignment checked if wear is that bad, or try not to spin wheels on take off!

I only have the car a few weeks, I was talking about some previous cars I have owned, all of which were very sore on rear tyres. Worst of them all was my CSL, I was getting 6-8k per rear set, and the left always wore more than the right!
