Tyre Pressure Monitoring

New member
Hi,
I'm new to using forums so I hope this works. Thanks D for the tip on how to get this onto the "˜thread'.
I'm a 997 Turbo owner living in Southampton and the tyre pressure warning symbol has illuminated in the central dial of the instrument nacelle along with the exclamation mark when the ignition key is turned on. It then suggests I check tyres for low pressure, (different ones each time). Scrolling to the schematic diagram of the four tyres shows each with their normal pressures and they vary with driving as the tyres warm and cool. A manual check shows all have normal pressure. Is this something that can be reset or will I have to go to my local Porsche centre to have it plugged into the diagnostic computer? Any suggestions or advice would be gratefully received. The tyres have been on for over a year and were fitted at the last service by Porsche Techs.
John

Welcome ot the forum John It may be that the starting pressure of your tyres(when cold) is below the limit which would make the car indicate the warning. This may be similar to what I'm suggesting-[link=http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=691460]http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=691460[/link] However you may have a fault if it's sugesting different tyres each time.. garyw

Hi Gary, Thanks for your prompt response, I'll check it out and see if it makes a difference..... I'll post when I find the answer John

Hi John, Welcome. [:)] Switching to the monitor when static will tell you if the pressure in each tyre is + or - the optimum. On the road, the display changes to provide actual pressures for each tyre. Suspect a sensor failure first of all, since this is quite common. However, if it's showing errors erratically on different corners, it is likely to be a software problem and one for your OPC. Good luck with solving it and let us know how you get on. Incidentially, if you are joining the Club, 997 register have a display planned for the "Supercar Showdown" at Beaulieu on August Bank Holiday Monday. It's not far from you and is a good day out for free [;)] and will give you a chance to meet up with fellow members. [:D] Regards, Clive.

Recently had spare set of wheels and tyres (Michelin Pilot Super Sports) fitted. As the spare set of wheels didn't have sensors fitted I purchased a set of sensorsand they were duly installed. Unable to set these up according to the manual so went to local Porsche Centre. All fours wheels on the car set for an hours labour circa £140.00 + VAT

Hey Everyone, Thanks so much for all your input. I went down to my local independent Porsche garage here in Southampton (Brookspeed) and asked to borrow their airline. With their assistance I over pressured the rear tyres, (which on this occasion of switching the ignition on, were the ones that were being displayed as under inflated), as suggested above, until the displayed 'underpressure' extinguished on the graphic and then released the excess air to normal 2.4 bar again. Bingo!! All working as it should. I gave them a couple of quid for their racing fund as they'd been so helpful and after a short chat about cars off I went. So far all is as it should be. I don't know what started the problem but noticed it first after I went to start the car and it just missed 'catching' after which I did the normal key to the left then turn it right to reignite when it started as normal except for the tyre pressure reading. Maybe some sort of surge set it off??? Anyhow thanks again one and all John

Glad you've got it sorted but I think the rears should be 2.7 bar (40psi) and the fronts 2.4 (34psi)? Well, they are on mine![;)]

Mine too When cold they show 2.1 and 2.5, when warm/used they show 2.4 and 2.7

Can I sense an N2 post from Clive soon.......[;)] I'm now wondering if the OP had 2.4 in the rears and that was the cause of the problem - especially when cold when they would have been even lower?

The same thing happened to me last week: the rear left tyre was showing as low so I went to a Shell garage where the air hose is programmable so you set the desired pressure, which I set at 2.4 front and 2.7 rear. Despite setting this, the warning did not clear so I also looked for a way to reset it. Before taking it to Porsche I went back to the same garage and reduced and refilled the tyres to 2.4 and 2.7 again and this cleared the message. Bizarre, but all OK in the end. Its just funny that it happened on almost the same day as you!

I looked on my sticker on the drivers sill and I've got them low but they've always been at those pressures from the showroom! I reckon I'll jam a bit more in.... Thanks again for yor various inputs
