Tyre Pressures

Guys what is generaly regarded as the best pressure to run a 993 at on track please ? running R888's
 
IMO 30 FRONT 31 REAR HOT/DRY ..............................................WET pop them up a couple on front and and rear
 
Thanks Vic, had them set at 32 all round cold which ended up as 36 front 39 rear when hot
Will try them at 30 hot next time
 
This time of year can start say 26 all round , cold ,bleed air out slowly, any lower might damage things rears will go up a bit quicker as u get a few laps in......reckon i used to see abt 8lbs fr and may 91/10 rear according to how long stayyed out and enthusiasm involved !
Dont forget to pump them up againg to come home, i found even 50 miles in normal road conditions wears the inside on these Toyos badly .................
 
Tricky one this, I run 32 hot all round on Dunlops and they work well......but didn't seem to be the case with Toyo 888.

After speaking with Steve at Simply tyres, he suggests running the at higher temps as apparently they have a stiffer sidewall.......This seems to be the case, many of the Gt3 boys are running even higher hot temps...(extra weight perhaps?)

So, on this basis I have been running the Toyos at 33/4 front and 36/7 rear (HOT) , happy with the handling and even wear.

For the sake of the sidewalls I tend not to go out with reduced pressure in the tyres, prefer to go out for a couple of steadyish laps, get the pressure up then let it
back down to hot target levels....I have to say the Toyos do seem need a few adjustments to get right, but fine when you get there.

I do recall Mark W who logs on here as MTBR, checked 888 pressures using his pyrometer and in conversation I am sure he arrived at F33/R36 hot to give an even temperature across the tread, this was one of themain reasons I went with those settings.

I'm using R888 as well with 18" BBS, and when we were at Llandow the other day Chris from CoG monitored the tyre temps with a pyrometer and we kept changing tyre pressures and settled with 32/33 front and 36 rear for even tyre temp.

Now I let air out to 30 frt 34 rear cold and do a few laps then let more air out. Once I get to 32/36 hot they tend to stay at that hot pressure for the rest of the day even if it cooled right down at long breaks.

The other "quirks" I found with the R888s are that when the pressure is still low before heating up, the steering vibrates a little but soon settles within a few corners, but when it gets hot the grips fall drastically, and become very "skittish" withing a few corners.

BTW, if the rubber gets overheated a few times (heat-cycles) it loses the grippiness even when there's plenty of rubber left, and the tyres become pretty much useless! (we found that out last wkend!)

I run Toyo R888 on my 968 Sport Track Car. At a recent track evening I started off at 28/24 and throughout the evening and after each sesssion and looking at the wear pattern I ended up at running 32 all round. The evening was at Yas Marina (I live in the UAE) and temperture was I would say about 23 C. My car has quite aggresive suspension set up and is very stiff so I guess setting the pressure depends on the car, track, conditions and driving style. If you have not used Toyos before they are really fantastic and you will love evry minute you are in the car.

I would try 32 allround hot to start with,toyo do like more pressure than most.
Vic has run them for a while now,he should know where they are at

Happy to comment , yes i ve run them but only on 993 s ....all types ...............personal pref 32 rears and 30 fronts hot ....................................my retiscence is that i know the GT3 boys , with heavier kit did nt get them to work on those need higher to prevent overheating very quickly and front engingined 968 i dont know where to start.

Also FWIW if weather roughly like it is /temps .........wud start abt 27/28 all round and deflate slowly ..............pump up if a long drive home or u ll have no tyres left !
 
I tend to run higher pressures in toyos than I have on Dunlops and Michelins.........normally end up at around 31 front and 33 rear.......personally I am not a fan of starting off too low as I am under the impression that it doesn't help the tyre wall structure...so start off at say 30F and 32R and then come in and let some out after a few laps.......I have found the Toyos can "go off" after several laps when they still have tread on them, but seem more stable after a few heat cycles and less actual tread,,,,the last 1/3rd of their life is normally the best.
 
always run very similar pressures to Paul and Vic. Toyos have softer tyre walls so better to keep pressure up and let air out as the temp rises, than build up to temp from low pressure start point.
 
went with 30f/32r, which worked really well. With it being so cold on the day, the didn't seem to vary too much after being set warm.
