Tyre pressures

Hi,
Have just fitted P Zero Rossos to my 1998 993 Targa, any recommendations on front and rear pressures?

For normal road work one of the best all round tyres i ve used with reasonable longevity..........if u dont want to use the manufacturers recommended pressures try 31 rear 30 front, cold ................or even 30 all round .
i use even less on a similar ,but lighter car daily, no adverse wear and excelent grip wet or dry .............good luck
 
2.5 & 3 bar is correct for 18 inch wheels @20 degrees c , I am not familier with running conti's only all the other ones IMO it is critical for all the reasons you give to run your car at the correct pressures , and check them very frequently . The pressures given are correct .
 
try 36/40 - its a bit softer and the tyres wear more evenly across their width - with 44 rear they seem to wear more in the middle. You could drop to 34 in the front too but I find that a bit soft.
 
You need to be careful if you run your tyre pressures too low.

This will also lead to centre section wear as the tyres balloon at speed due to the side walls not pulling the flat section of the tyre laterally. To see this in action watch a drag racing car taking off from the start, slightly extreme example but it does show what happens. I was given this info by a tyre speciallist who fitted new tyres to my car.

I'll go along with that. I run 34/40 on my 18s (with Pirelli P Zeros). No difference in wear as far as I've noticed, but much easier on the teeth [:-], especially along some of our badly maintained UK roads[8|].
 
Why is it that 18s run such a big difference between front and back whereas, with 17s, the recommendation is same front and back? I run my 17s on 36 all round and I'm happy with them (although not really experimented).

I'll confess that I don't know enough to give you an authoratative answer, but I suspect it's something to do with the aspect ratio of the tyres and the inherent strengths and weaknesses of the respective sidewalls etc. The 17" rear wheels run 40 aspect tyres so, in comparison to the 35 aspect 18" tyres have a more solid sidewall and tread. The more flimsy sidewalls of the 18" tyres need more pressure to support the tread.

As mentioned above, I'd always associated worn centre tread as evidence of over inflation but I can testify that on my previous set of 18" Yokohama AVS Sports, the centre tread suffers badly if run at 36psi (as I did) through the centrifugal force causing the centre of the tread to expand at speed if the sidewalls are not sufficiently supported.

I currently run 36/44 on my somewhat non-standard 225/40 & 285/30 18s - and that was decided upon after running temperature tests at Center Gravity after the geo setup.

My settings (C2):
16" 33 front / 36 rear
18" 33 front / 39 rear

That is the best compromise for me.,




33 front / 39 rear works for me on 18" wheels.


 
Many thanks to all that have contributed. Feel seems to be c. 40R and experiment at F.

Currently running 36/40 and at the moment feels okay - just need to watch the wear!
