Tyre prices - seems like a free for all!!

Last week I noticed my front nearside tyre was down a little, so I guessed that it was a slow puncture. It was down 10psi so I pumped it up and booked it in at Halfords in Blackpool for a repair - if possible.

I had the Pirelli PZero (not N1s as I had ordered the wrong ones) tyres fitted last year and the fronts had at least 5mm tread. The rears I replace with N1s last month. (21" all round). The rears lasted just about 10k miles.

The screw was dead centre and they refused to repair it as they said car was too fast FFS. Its an oil burner and hardly going to set any speed records. I asked how much a replacement was and was quoted £330 each! No thanks, as I paid nowhere near that last year.

I went online and found Tyre Shopper were quoting me £245 fitted for Pirelli PZero N1s - that a difference of £85 per tyre! I ordered two for the front. (now N1s all round)

When I was asked where I wanted to have my tyres fitted I was offered the same Halfords outfit, but decided to go to the other Halfords outfit a few miles away. They confirmed the puncture and said it couldn't be repaired anyhow as the car was too heavy! I'm sure they make all this crap up as they go along, but at least they should get the facts or whatever in line with each other.

I saved £170 and I still have my near new non N1 from the from offside as an emergency spare.

It pays to shop around thats for sure.

Pretty much always been like that in my experience. If I am buying Pirellis I always get best prices from Internet, then phone my localish Pirelli Performance Centre to get them to price match, which they normally do, or get within a few pounds. Then after fitting I claim the cash back from Pirelli on the PCGB scheme. Ends up by far the best price for the tyres I want.
I did that recently for 4 of new Pirelli Cinturato SF3 All Season tyres for our BMW X1. On 18 inch wheels that got me £100 off the competitive price, and to cap it all, Pirelli were running another campaign on those tyres through posters in the branch which gave me an additional £60 cash back. Not bad!
