Tyre profile choice

I have just realised I have posted this in the wrong section can someone please move it to the general 944 area, my apologies.

I have a 1982 944 fitted with 15" x 7J Teledials, fitted with 195/60/15 tyres which need replacing. Can someone advise me whether the correct fitment is 195/60/15 or 195/65/15. Being as the tyres will need replacing I would like to fit a set with a lower profile. Can someone advise what tyre options are available without creating any problems in the handling department as well as speedo error or fouling of the arches. I am also concerned how wide I can go on a 7J rim.
