Tyre repairs.

Just had first two year service on 981 "S" at OPC who found small nail in rear tyre. Would not repair as Porsche "Only fit new tyres" and with PC discount £275. (Elite £225) Wheels Basalt Black with silver rims, 6mm. left, could be tricky I thought. Having heard horror stories re certain national tyre companies I Tel. Elite Tyres at Pulborough who I had heard good reports about some years ago. Naturally they neeeded to see the tyre so made the 40mile round trip. Ian the Manager and his colleague Lee looked at the wheel and Ian said they could do it but could not guarantee not to damage the silver ring section. Ian went to deal with a customer while I thought about it. Got chatting to Lee who expained that if he did it he would take his time, use plenty of lubricant with the plastic former and that he fits the tyres for Harwoods opposite (Landrover/Bentley). It seemed to me that it was worth taking the risk, because even a new tyre would still have to be fitted and if Porsche did it they use the same machine.
Lee took his time and even removed the old weights without any damage/marking to the painted inside rim. The job was done brilliantly and when completed there was no evidence whatsoever of the wheel having been taken off (It was, as I stood watching of course) Coloured centre returned to face dust cap as well. Cost £22.62.
It is easy to knock those that look after our cars but if repairs are needed in the Sussex area Elite Tyres are certainly worth a call and ask for Lee.
I had not intended this to be a lengthy missive when I started but I must be feeling magnaminous after yesterdays good result. OPC Portsmouth undertook the service allowing me to use my own Mobile1, accepted that I did not need another bottle of screenwash at about £5 as I had 5 on the shelf and after PC discount the bill was £436. Martin the Service Manager ran Lyn and I down to Gun Wharf and was happy to pick us up later but we fancied a bus ride!
Sorry it ended up a bit long but praise where it's due.

I used STS in Biggleswade for a tyre repair who were also careful & thorough... cost approx same & has done 4k miles since with 3 digit speeds in Europe

Had it not been repairable, their prices were actually better than Event-Tyres who are usually very competetive!!

Credit where credit is due [:D]
