Tyre replace conundrum

Hi

I put my Cayman S Gen2 in for service today and it seems that I have a nail sitting in the middle of one of my rears causing a slow puncture. Obviously the OPC (Cambs) don't recommend repairing it, can't get the N1's, and gave me an astronomical price for a full set of N2's. Before I try to source some N1's I was wondering about repairing the tyre if it's in the middle. Have any of you guys done this with your cars? If it can be repaired though, I worry that Kwik fit or whoever will wreck my currently mint condition rim doing it. Do you have any suggestions?

Cheers, Alex

I have had tyres repaired in the main tread area without problem, the place you can't repair is up into the side wall although Porsche do not recommend tyre repairs of any kind. But then they are selling full sets. British standards covers the method and the tyres are said to be ok for normal use up to their performance rating. And when can we ever get into the top performance range of our cars anyway? I don't know Cambridge but there must be somewhere good to get repairs done.

I had a nail removed from the main tread area and resulting puncture repaired on my previous Boxster and also on my current Cayman S by KwikFit (Norwich), and have also bought 5 pairs of tyres from them. Best competitive price for the tyres, no marks on rims, perfect balance, and no charge for either puncture repair. They never quibbled or queried repairing the punctures and one of them was on my car for the trip to Germany last year where I saw 130mph for longish periods on the autobahn. I have no connection with KwikFit but do take the trouble to be a friendly customer and ask them to look after my wheels. So far so good.

Thanks for your replies. In the end I was recommended to a place in town here (Kings Lynn) which looked a bit rough but I thought I'd trust my recommendation. The screw was right in the middle of the tyre so no problem and they repaired it. I checked the rim afterwards and it was fine so I went home happy and relieved. I then had another look and there was a new scratch on the main wheel face about an inch long :(. I've T Cutted it down so it doesn't show too much although it's not gone. I've had 3 Porsches now and had wheel damage on each of them every time tyres changed/wheels refurbed.
