Tyre Replacement

Regarding my 996 Carrera 4S.

I am driving to Monaco to watch the F1 race in a few weeks time and was checking over my car and think that the rear tyres are a little low.

I have had the car since nearly new and have always replaced all four tyres at the same time.

Looking at the fronts, they seem to have a lot of life left in them.

Can I replace the rears only or should I replace all four at the same time as previously.

My friend used to have an Audi Quattro and he says that four wheel drive cars must have all four tyres replaced at the same time otherwise it buggers up the electronics in the four wheel drive system.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Just replace the rears. No sense in wasting all that rubber. I used to find that I got through two pairs of rears to one pair of fronts.

Hi, Just replaced the rear tyres only on my C4S, Pirelli Roso N4 (same as fronts which were worn say 15%) and no problems, OPC would normally say dont mix different makes of tyres on same axle and keep same tyres all round and same N rating[:D].

Thank you for the fast reply.

I am not sure why the rears are wearing faster than the fronts now after 60,000 miles, as they have always worn evenly around the car (all four normally last around 12 - 15,000 miles).

Replacing just the rears is all good with my pocket!

Sounds about right, when i had my corsa (front engine/front wheel drive) it was about 2 pairs front to one rear. I think most makes only the rear of a 911 will only last 10-15000 anyway.

i killed a pair of contis on the rear in 4k miles , now have pirelli's all round
ps do not mix brands front to rear on a c4 !
