Tyre Rotation/Direction?

I think I'm gutted. Just starting switching over wheels 'n tyres for a track day tomorrow and just noticed that the set I acquired a while ago, and was about to use for the first time, have two rears of Potenza SA-020's which indicate the tyre rotation as both the same - i.e. handed. Think I might be stuffed now as, with both the same rotation arrow if on one side, when I turn it round to fit to the other side the tread is now 'reversed'. As part worn tyres surely the previous guy didn't notice (or didn't care). Am I going to have to forget using these then (unless I get a new different handed tyre of the same) or in the dry is there no difference?

I think you just need to get the tyre refitted so that the direction of rotation correct. It just needs removing, the tyre (or wheel) rotating 180 degrees when removed and then refitting. It's hassle but at least you shouldn't have to buy another tyre!!

AA says this, amongst other stuff, regarding just cracking on as you are:

If a directional tyre is fitted the wrong way round, the tyre won't be dangerous, but you won't gain any of the benefits of it's design.

Incorrect fitting of both asymmetric and directional tyres is a reason for MOT failure.

Probably just add (unwanted) excitement to your track day!

Got it.. seems the tyre was mounted the wrong way round - not sure why. It could be that they were freshly refurbished when I bought them and the finishers simply shoved them back on any way.. I'll sort tomorrow

Very interesting, slight conflict there. DOT seems to think that they might be a problem and hence the MOT failure for this. Probably are fine in the dry but wouldn't want to depend on them like that in an emergency in the rain... I pop the others on and have this one reversed. Cheers...

As Chris says, get it swapped round. My guess is they fitted tyres to wheels took to them without being on the car. If they weren't asked to do one right and one left then they would have just slapped them on.

Personally I wouldn't use them at high speed as they are.

Have a great day. [:)]

Yup Stevo, wheels were not with the car when refurb'd and as you say, when done they just banged on the tyres not noticing the handing....

Chose Bedford Autodrome as there's no armaco to hit there! First time out in the CS see..

All sorted, tyres now fitted correctly and surprised with how little degradation there was not matter how much I was trying to trash them. Perfect tbh...
