Tyre selection dilemma

The offside Pirelli Rosso P Zero died on my Boxster today - I was due to be replacing both the fronts sometime soon anyhow so that's rather made the decision for me.

They're 205/50ZR17s, but the rears are Bridgestone S02 (Potenzas ?). Don't ask me, they were that way when I bought the car.

I see a couple of options:

1. Replace the Pirellis as is - although this means a continued mismatch of tyre brands front versus rear.

2. Get Bridgestones - although I'm no expert, I do want to retain decent handling. Will they cut the mustard ?

And as an additional question - does anyone know decent suppliers with decent prices ? mytyres.co.uk seem reasonable, but if anyone knows different...

I wouldn't want a mismatch front to rear. A friend of mine has Bridgestones on a 987 S and is happy with them.

Camskill allegedly offer very good prices, but don't rule out an OPC.

MrDemon:

Thanks for the suggestion, but if I can't afford to replace all four tyres (two of which are in perfectly good condition) which of my two options would you go for ? And where would you buy your tyres ?

Definitely avoid mis-match front to rear; so your only option is to get pair of Bridgestones.
Four tyres the same all round should feel much better balanced. Bridgestone are a decent tyre so no worries there.
Are the current Bridgestones N marked? - if so get the same N mark as the existing ones if at all possible.

I did research and while the cheapest Bridgestones were £128 or so, I've got them for £150 a side including VAT and fitting at my locals garage.

Thanks for the input, all.

Daft question

Why not change in pairs?

Most Porsche will have different size front and rear and will wear at different rates so does this mean never change tyre type?

I'd suspect any pair of new approved tyres would be better than worn ones which come off so why not change in pairs?

IMO:

Michelin = best grip, good wear, but ride firm. But expensive.

Continental = very comfortable, lower ultimate grip, but cheaper.

Swapped over to Continental after Michelins and noticed an immediate smoother ride - prerequisite for UK roads now, especially with MO30 sports suspension.

But for fast road (and track day driving) Michelin is the best.

+1 for Michelins in my 944 and what others have tried on Boxsters from what I have heard (I have the N1s on the front in 205/50R17):). They seem to last longer than the Contis as well :). Cheap however they are not :(. In all the cars I have tried with Contis and Michlins though, the latter are slightly noisier.

I have the Bridgestone S-02's all round on my boxster now. I bought a pair of new fronts about 6 weeks ago at Elite's, £290.
Good tyre, grippy, with not to much road noise. they suit the car and they are N rated
