Tyre sizes on D90s

Hi,

I'd like to keep the standard D90 16" rims on my C2 as they give a decent ride and I prefer the look to the cups.

Its got 205 and 225 tyres currently but I'd like to get a wider tyre as it could do with a bit more grip. Does anyone know what tyre size I could put on these rims and has anyone tried it ?

I've done a bit of research and it looks like they'll take

225 50s and 245 45s

Rim width's are 7 & 8s

Anyone tried these sizes ?
