Tyre sizes

ORIGINAL: P1BSW Hi, I've just bought an 06 3.2S which has a very nice set of chromed alloys 265 / 30 / 19 rears & 235 / 35 / 19 fronts. I would like to replace the tyre with some of deeper profile as the ride is a bit hard and the car is basically the wife's shopping trolley so we are not looking for ultimate cornering performance. Any suggestions ? Thanks BSW
Rears should be 265/35/19. You sure they are 30s? If you are after deeper then you need to swap to 18" rims they take a 40 profile tyre. You have to be careful plus sizing on the car as otherwise it will throw PSM warnings all the time.

The '06 is a 987 3.2 so 18" is the standard rim size. You'll need to change the wheels to the 18" option but that shouldn't be difficult as plenty of people want to upgrade to the 19's depending on which style you have. Try to identify which wheel style you have and advertise to do a swap, otherwise buy a set of the standard wheels for the year but make sure they are genuine Porsche and not copies. You can later sell on the original wheels or sell them separately. You don't say which area you are in but there are some good wheel/tyre suppliers who can help. It says guest of the club on your thread but if you are a member you will be able to advertise on the forum, membership does save 10% at the OPC if you buy parts from there so good value.

Hi, Thanks guys for the quick replies. Yes it is on 30s at the rear & 35s at the front. I wonder if that may explain why the ABS & PSM warning lights sometimes come on when it is first moved. I also wonder if I should ask the garage ( large group but not an OPC ) I bought it from to put it on the correct rear tyres. Regarding joining the club, I think I will, I used to be a member way back in the 80s when I ran 911s. Certainly being able to advertise on the forum & get discount at OPCs is very tempting. I'm in the Northampton / Rugby area and any leads to good service / suppliers in that area would be appreciated. BSW

18s will be cheaper and easier to obtain, as well as improving the ride a little. If you don't want to pay Porsche prices for wheels, [link=http://www.design911.co.uk/]design911.co.uk[/link] do a range of replicas for less than half the price - and you can even get some Porsche 19" designs in 18" sizes.

Probably your best bet, and you could argue that as they supplied you the car with the incorrect tyre size they should replace them with the correct, Porsche approved N rated ones for free. Edit: and yes to the ABS & PSM warning, it's because of the incorrect sized rears.
