Tyre stretch - yay or nay?

Got a lovely set of BBS E28s waiting to go on the narrow 993 this summer. They are 8.5 and 10 x 18s ET55 (i think) but the rears are painfully close to the arches at the rear, as the car is lowered on Billies and H&R.
Is it okay to slightly undersize the tyre widths to acheive a bit of stretch in the walls as I don't want to roll the arches at all?
I've had some serious stretch on some silly Golfs I've built but they had about 100 fewer hp than the 993 and were considerably lighter...
advice will be without any sort of liability, obviously...

Each tire manufacturer usually publishes a minimum and maximum rim width each particular tire will fit on. As long as you are within those guidelines you should be OK otherwise it's in your own hands.

10" rears should be ET65 on a narrow body so you're 10mm too far out hence I guess why you are asking the question.

ET65... really?
that explains a lot.
I've been done up like a kipper.
Don't really want to fork out for two new mag centres so I'll have to look at 265s and see how we go....
God, this Porsche owning can be an expensive business.
