Tyre valve dust caps

Does anybody know where I can get the metal dust caps for 993 turbo tyre valves?
I tried my OPC, but it seems that whilst the body of the valve is still metal they have changed to plastic dust caps.
Is there any reason for using plastic rather than metal?

Metal (or alloy) can bond to the thread of the tyre valve.

I know this because it happened on my LR Defender. All four were stuck fast. The tyre fitter managed to release three, but one was completely fused.

I have them on both mine and they look great

James,
Make sure you let any tyre fitters know that you need longer valves for this caps, works the first time as you get the valves with the caps. Most fitters give you shorter valves for Alloys so they do not get caught and snap or get damage. The shorter ones work fine for the fronts but the rears will not let the caps hold onto the thread fully. I had this unfortunate experience when I got my tyres changed.

Are these new plastic caps lockable? Problem with nice caps are that they fit perfectly on a bicycle (what a coincidence) and kids who have nothing better to do like borrowing car caps (without returning them, of course) []

Have a look on e-bay - plenty around. I just bought some fancy porsche logo ones for £7 incl P+P [:D]

Ahem, you mean fake Porsche logo [;)]. I have had 3 nicked so far, so I have just got plain hexagonal lockable one from ebay for 4.99 inc P&P and so far they are all in place...and they look pretty good too...

For a tenner they must be fake - but look the bizz. And your right - two have been nicked already - only had on 7days[&:]

Irrelevant of the price it is really annoying when kids and people feel it is acceptable to nick such small items and that they are only considered vandals or criminals if they do or steal something major...

BTW, I would not recommend lockable ones either as apparently the person stealing it will not check and they would have most likely damaged your valve by the time they realise they are locked... []
