Tyre wear

My rear tyres show exactly the same wear pattern as yours. I spoke to the OPC and asked if this was normal and he said it was and was due to the camber of the wheels.

I must admit I have spent so much time arguing the toss with Porsche about my RMS problem that I have just gone along with this and they will be putting two new tyres on this Friday (cost £455).

I would have thought 12,000mls from the rears and 24,000mls from the fronts was far better than average. I would expect the average to be nearer 9,000mls and 18,000mls. I know a few people who would be delighted to get 6,000mls out of their rears!

If you are changing all four go for Pirelli Rossos N4.

You're not trying hard enough!! [:D]

Wear sounds normal, but for road use would recomend a full four wheel alignment every two years, at least.

The Pirelli's are fine tyres, but I think you will find that the wear rates won't be as good as the Conti's.

If u r happy with the Conti's, why change?

Tyre wear not unreasonable, if you were using more performance would wear a lot quicker. As Melv says , Contis not only wear better than most but are also pretty quiet in comparison. FWIW I fitted Michelin Pilot Sports ( not cups) to my 996C2 after years of contis - looks like they will last longer without sacrifing any grip, + very good in wet , - noisy.

Would agree totally with Oldtimer. Mine is in for a service today and just had a phone call to say the Michelins are down to the canvas on the inner edge with just over 2mm on the outer edge on the rears!! The fronts are not so bad - nearly at the wear indicators on the inside with the same wear pattern. 15,000 miles since my last lot.

Guess I'll be making a trip to Micheldever or Bracknell this weekend.[:(]

12k/24k sounds about spot on (I used to get 10k/20k, but only got 15k out of the fronts on the TT) most cars do wear their tyres more on the inside edge, due to toe/camber settings that help keep that rear weight biase a little more under control!
Have had both pirelli & Conti's , slightly prefered the P's (as did autocars tyre test) but there isn't that much in it, so I'd go on price, agree with the micheldever pricing route, they will also deliver to your local dealer 7 supply trade.
With regards to having a full camber check, if the OPC feel wear rate is ok & the cars handling ok, I'd save your £200, the tyres have got to wear an awful lot quicker to cover the cost!!!

I would loved to have got 12K from the rears on my TT, I posted after only getting 3K yes, that right 3K from the rears!!!
I never had to replace the fronts. After having the geometery checked I replaced the car after a further 3K on Conti's and going well.
Current TT has Pilots sports and my experiences are not so good, no lack of grip but they do generate alot of road noise including squealing on light bends and braking.. Conti's also gave alot less road noise.
Done 4.5K in the last 2 months and the tyres are looking fine at the moment.

Hi, I have a 996 turbo with a bilstein suspension, which was on the car when I bought it, goes through rear tyres every 2500 mile with normal road use, can this be right?

Yikes! 2500 miles never heard of that amount of wear
What tyres are you using and is the wear across the tyre or on inner/outer band, centre or across entire width?

Stewart!

Sounds like too much negative camber or maybe toe-out to me. I would get a 4-wheel alignment done.

So would I . I have Bridgestones they have done 5000 and there is still 3 mm above the wear indicator.

Yes it needs 4 wheel alignment doing
Approx £90 but worth every penny
Should get 12,000 out of Bridgestones and performance

Got 18,000 miles out of PZeros, including a couple of track days. Geo done at Centre Gravity.

Well my C4 went through a pair of continentals in 3000 miles and the current pirellis have just about done 4500 miles, now in need of replacement, geo / tracking done every couple of years, no track days, just weekend riding about if the chance arrives , would love to see them last 18000 miles.

Just had a pair of Pirelli Rear Tyres on my Porsche 996

PZERO ROSSO 265/35ZR18 N$

for312.00 FITTED the Pair

At F1 in Shrewsbury

Rencons the Tracking should be done with a full Tank of Petrol according to Porsche

Check out www.tyreleader.co.uk for tyres.
Pirelli P Zero Rosso N4 265/35 18 are £134.20
285/30 18 are £154.79

These are delivered prices so you need to get a fitter to fit them, but I had my wheels refurbed at the same time so no charge to put the new ones on instead.
