Tyres 205 50 17 on S2

I need a couple of front tyres 205 50 17 and thought I'd see what Black Circles could offer. They range from £58 which suits me fine cos the 944 is a second car and doesn't get a lot of use. I got a quote from a 'chain' who told me I needed a tyre at at least £140 each, cos they're better suited to the 944. I realise that they are probably 'better', but didn't really wanna spend this ammount considering the use the car gets! Any views guys? Trev...

Yup don't use the chain they are talking cobblers.
When my 944 was doing big miles as my daily driver I ran a cheapy pair of fronts at around 40 quid each, they were OK. Once I was flusher & my mileage had dropped a bit it went onto G/Y GSD3 F1 they are better obviously but not hugely so.
I'd go for something like a Falken or similar which will be grippy & pretty good.

Wow. Wasn't expecting that. Thought you'd tell be I need Pirrestoneyearhama P1million's. If I was driving everyday, sideways, I would deff get something better. Ta, I will get some from my local Lego dealer then...

www.tyretraders.com will do Falken 452's for £67,or Toyo T1-R's for £82, although there is a delivery charge. I have used their 'fitted' service a few times (nearest fitter is only a few miles from me) and have never been dissapointed.

Why if you were doing big miles would you go for something that was less good? That's like saying that because you watch a lot of TV, you'd buy the cheapest one you could.

Surely whenever you are in a car, no matter how much you use it, you want to know that you've got some decent tyres stopping you from entering a hedge?

Edit: Sorry, just spotted that you changed them when you had some more cash. Apologies.

Shouldn't they be 225/45 on the 944? I thought the 205/50 were for the 911 which has different handling/weight characteristics. This was definetly discussed some time ago.

According to this post you should be using 968 tyre sizes - Front = 225/45, Rears = 255/40. This is what I remember having on my 993 Cups on my 944S.

That's useful info on the front tyre sizes as mine has 205s at the mo and I thought they looked a bit skinny, 225s sound much better. In 6-7 years time when my P6000s wear out, I will replace them with some Falkens to match the back

I wouldn't bother waiting, you won't wear them out! I did a track day on a pair at the front and there was no visible sign of wear (nor any grip either) [;)]

I hate to waste money as much like the next man, so buy the Falkens for the front, especially as they'll now be the correct width and sell the P6000s on eBay. My car was transformed when I put Falkens on all round.
